Have you seen the video?

There is a white guy defending them and a black cop watching them being arrested. So please, keep the racism bllsht for yourself

I also don't see a problem that somebody called the police. If you don't order anything -->leave. But arresting them is too much. But we don't know what happened. Maybe they refused to leave, then there's no other option than to arrest them

We literally do know what happened.

Because one white person defended them doesn't mean that racism doesn't exist. Non-racist white people exist, yes. And so do racist ones. It's an indication of racism that two black men minding their own business are seen as potential threats or homeless/loiterers while everybody else uses the same people without ordering and gets away with it.

They were not asked to leave AND Starbucks allows guests to visit and just use their WiFi even if they don't order.

Not ordering at Starbucks = arrest? Dafuq?

Don't get me wrong, I genuinely believe Starbucks and any establishment has the right to ask a customer to leave if that customer is just using space without ordering anything. ASK THEM TO LEAVE is the key here not HANDCUFFS. WTF.

And the man who they were waiting for clearly showed up so they weren't lying either.

But in the meantime we can wait for more information, and for that time I can hold off the Frapps :interestinga:

  Reveal hidden contents

though it's been a while since I've been to a Starbucks tbh

Edit: And btw this isn't the first time Philadelphia police have been under scrutiny. There was a huge issue where a university's police in Philadelphia fired a black police officer for not shaving--literally. Even though the officer told them he couldn't shave because he had a skin condition (that mostly affects black people) where their skin gets extremely irritated/gets a lot of in-grown hairs.

And they knew he had this condition.

That also happened just a while after Trump's election (PA went red in 2016). It was a clear and completely unnecessary act of discrimination.

Arresting people for taking up space :lmao: get a grip my dude

I have already said THAT that the person who called the police COULD politely ask them to leave.I think that's the perfect thing to do,but maybe employee DID ask them and they didn't leave.Of course it's not okay to just arrest them, but if they refused to listen,of course employee can call the police.Y'all didn't read what i've written so you misunderstood it all

And the black cop is also a racist?

I've seen many white people who had to leave the store because they didn't buy anything. It has nothing to do with racism

We literally don't know who are these guys. They might have caused troubles in the past and the staff remembers them and that¨s why they called the cops. What's the problem then?

I mean there has to be more to the story.

You just can't call the cops to arrest someone right? Or can you in the US?

Like you have to warn the man or ask him to leave before… no?

You can have a SWAT team in full gear raid someone's house from across the country here :laughga: of course you can have someone arrested (or at least escorted off the property) for loitering in a place of business.

Whoever called the cops though is VERY extra :rip: there's no need for that and no need for them to be arrested. I doubt it was an employee though 'cause they would've asked them to either order or move on and only called the police if a problem had arose.

The other was a homeless man, unfortunately, who many customers were complaining about that wouldn't leave our parking lot asking for money.

Ugh I've had to do the same and it's the worst. But as employees, it's in our best interest to generate profit for the company we work for. If customers are being put off by someone's behavior, even if it's asking for help in the parking lot or something, then we're expected to deal with that behavior in an appropriate manner. Usually they're pretty understanding about it and they know we feel like dirt bags doing it :selena:

So we do know for a fact that the manager called the cops? or is that just what the internet's cooking up for their Twitter storm? :triggered:

I don’t think there’s a need to boycott a whole company because of one isolated incident. If it was persistent and the company was revealed to have racist ideas behind it, I think boycotting would be ok. But it’s just a coffee shop. :selena:

This, period.

I can't wrap my head around this. How can those people be arrested for nothing? :saladga: If this was a crime, we'd all be in jail by now.

Starbucks as a company is incredibly supportive and sensitive to race issues. They’ve worked with My Brother Keeper Alliance (an Obama project) for years and just a month ago helped host a job fair for young black men to help them write resumes, practice interviews, and have dozens of them jobs.

The CEO also tried to launch the Race Together initiative that aimed to promote mutual respect and understanding through open and honest discussion about race.

To boycott Starbucks as a company that’s SO supportive of minorities, the working class (Starbucks wages are much hirer than they have to be!), and gay peoples is RIDICULOUS! It send the wrong message when we don’t punish companies like chick fil a or Walmart which drains the poor of their value and until a week ago sold guns to teens.

Yes, because racism isn’t a human issue :ladyhaha:

Girl you try visiting a refugee neighborhood in Germany, a Muslim neighborhood in the UK, take a trip to Moscow, see how much black vs. Latino crime there is in South America, or see how China/Japan/Korea treat other Asian neighbors and tell me racism is an American problem....

Hate to break it to you but here in America, people have been going to Starbucks just to use their WiFi for YEARS.

me :sis: but seriously tho, callimg the police is beyond stupid and disrespectful, but boycotting a company for having one incident in one of its 6293073 branches is a little out of proportion, ever heard of escalating means of leverage?

but it's a little about systemic racism, so the employees/manager should be punished or at least have an investigation

I swear, only in America this things happen.

Like are you actually kidding me, are the cops even allowed to handcuff people like that.

If you dont oblige to the norms of a estableshiment you'd get some kind of warrant or something like that. This is so damn extreme.

It's clearly not starbucks but people who are quick to press charges and law enforcement who should be ashamed

Ew
