Inferno 2,880
Its not even debatable that had it been the lead single it would've been huge considering how well it performed as it did. Would it have been the most interesting or preferred choice for the fans? No. Which is why you see so much opposition in this thread because most of you think its too dull and basic. But I think it would've peaked at #2 and been like an adult contemporary staple. As opposed to peaking at #4 and being relatively absent from the radio stations it should normally inhabit. Like can someone from her team tell me WHY its not on every basic playlist used in grocery stores and malls across the country alongside every song by Adele, P!nk, and Kelly Clarkson? Like wtf is that about? That is exactly where Million Reasons belongs and yet its not there.

That song is MANiCUREs even cornier sister which who knew that was even possible. Its fit for a bad Target commercial. Its awful.

TimisaMonster 31,073
Umm....no that would be like Gaga releasing Dope as the lead single from ARTPOP Gaga would've been SHREDDED for not releasing an upbeat song after C2C... Stream my new single, 💜"Heartbeat"💜, on Spotify!

Could have been #1 if gags promoted it.. it could have been her dark horse its just that good #1? This song would not have smashed. It’s too rock for today’s charts, and gets a bit shouty at the end like Perfect Illusion, which I’d assume was a big turn off for people.

This seems to be largely why they chose PI as the first and A-yo as the (original) second single. The fans were thirsty after the jazz.

Dark Anatomy 2,284
I truly believe she should've released Million Reasons as the lead single in January before the super bowl, then used the promo of the performance and release of a music video (with imagery like Joanne Piano Version) to shoot the single to number one. Then in April, riding off the success and hype of Million Reasons, hit them with A-YO and a big Gaga budget style music video. And shortly drop the album. With this I think the album and it's singles couldve been a lot more commercial.
Vergil 2,296
Nah. PI was the perfect intro for Joanne.
REALITY 76,648
I disagree. Imagine the backlash she would have gotten—not by the general public because I think that they'd be fine with it, but by Little Monsters. Hell, people were divided over "Perfect Illusion." If Gaga released a ballad as her "comeback single" Little Monsters would be more than upset. Sure, in hindsight we say differently, but I guarantee that would have divided people more than PI did. A-YO would have been the perfect lead single in my opinion. 𝔊𝔬𝔬𝔡𝔟𝔶𝔢, ℑ'𝔩𝔩 𝔰𝔢𝔢 𝔶𝔬𝔲 𝔦𝔫 𝔪𝔶 𝔡𝔯𝔢𝔞𝔪𝔰
