Also I just remembered but "digital download" never turned into a thing in Asia in general. They've always been fans of Physical CD's etc and yet it's kinda expensive to produce these things so they create "their versions"

From what I remember correctly the IV shoot and one if the pictures from IV shoot  was gonna be the album cover according to mindtrappa. But around the time DJWS and Gaga were finishing Applause, she had the opportunity to collaborate with Jeff Koons on something and that something turned out to bbe the album cover we got and hence a little aesthetic change in the era.

basically get rid of the jewel case

in our country the albums comes in different sizes and different packaging (it's a bit difficult trying to store them that is true)

but it's all about being different and artistic 

the U.S. always sticks to the easily breakable jewel case it's disappointing and boring

Ya that is what I am guessing also. She met all these artsy fartsy people and quickly change her concept for ARTPOP. Just like she changed her plans for Joanne once she met Ronson
