I hope you mean in the US only... Because world wide it has sold over 3M copies :)

Yes, it's about USA only. She announced the first 500k of copies would be  done with the special foil, probably cuz they really expected BTW-First-Week-Numbers cuz they were all rushing and hyping like "Pre-Order before it's too late!!". Is it at 3m right now worldwide? that's really cool, I thought it was more into 2,5 by now

Y'all are acting like The Fame, Born This Way and Joanne covers were anything to write home about. She is not an artist who produces good album art. I actually think ARTPOP has one of her best covers, after TFM.

are we? i never said any of her album covers are out of this world but TFM is an amazing cover and (minus C2C) was the only album to bother having some interesting packaging

this thread isn't about the album covers, it's about how they're all packaged as a whole and why the k-pop albums are part of it because they go FULL out on their physical copies

i just think it's fair to say gaga should one day put a lot of effort into an albums packaging and ARTPOP was a missed opportunity to do something incredible

So true I just recently bought ARTPOP in vinyl and was underwhelming, like a colored disks would’ve been cool like one blue and other pink or something, and the sleeves were plain white paper like girl...

Don't go for second best, baby Put your love to the test

That's expensive to do, just imagine if people didnt even buy the standard edition, they wouldnt buy any super special edition

Well tbh imagine how expensive it was for her to work with people like Jeff Koons and Marina? And how much it must have cost for her to have a statue made of herself and use him for the artwork? Probably way more than an elaborate box set.

I hope you do realize unconventional packaging costs a shitload to make... The only place in the world where they are still experimenting with that on the daily is Japan, because people are still very attached to physical copies of music there. In the day & age of streaming, original packaging - or even the whole concept of physical CD - is bound to disappear.

i know, that's why i meant this album was the perfect opportunity for a creative special edition like TFM super deluxe one

I know... but mainstream pop isn't the place to be looking for that anymore, tbh. Independent labels are still serving the goods, tho - like, Björk is the queen of packaging imo. I wish everyone took those things as seriously as she does. Especially since there's still an audience for that.
