ARTPOP deserved better packaging

before we freak out, yes i like ARTPOP and this isn't a bashing or hate thread or whatever so chill before you get your gifs ready

so first of all before i give out my thoughts and feelings, i'd like to say the album cover itself is successful in conveying the message of putting art before pop. the unique and messy typography glues well with the album's high energy instrumentals and the foil is a nice touch (however i swear they're supposed to be limited  i can't find a non foil one for the life of me )

but when i look at this album's packaging as whole, i feel like it really was the opportunity to do something innovative, beyond the foil. it frustrates me that they opted to use these basic optical illusions that you can find on page one google images when you search "optical illusions" for the booklet and tracklisting. if somebody ever explained why that choice was made, please let me know because personally, i think not using the inez and vinoodh was a mistake. that photoshoot f*cking slays and i think they would have worked a lot better in conveying what ARTPOP was than the optical illusions  i don't really have any quarrels with the statue since i think it works in putting art before pop though and the jeff koons shoot is cute but they could have a place elsewhere (maybe as separate cards you can collect that came with the album)

i also think this album deserved better than standard jewel case so i'll post some examples of physical albums that i think are awesome:

even Iggy's Digital Distortion would have been an AMAZING concept for ARTPOP  like imagine holding this and being able to flip between two photos of gaga that are art and pop :

as the standard edition or maybe some kind of limited/collector's edition, i feel like ARTPOP was THE album to have gone all out with in the packaging department :/ i also get kinda sad that it never had any kind of collector edition like TFM has (same goes for BTW) but what's done is done

basically, IMO the packaging for ARTPOP was a missed opportunity. they could have done better than optical illusions and a jewel case but that's just me  i really hope we get an album that really puts detail in it's packaging but in the age of streaming, it seems like a rare thing unless you're Beyonce or your core fanbase still buys physical

How Gaga hyped ARTPOP in 2012. I would have thought the packaging would be artsy-tech like this chair:

But hopefully she experiments something different like this for LG6.

The problem is that the amount of physicals purchases is too low to waste time and energy on it... which is sad because I like this idea..

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Agreed, her team hasn't done anything memorable since Born this way, she needs a new team. Desperately!

lowkey her graphic design team HAS improved thanks to lobster eye cus her website and social media has improved dramatically

Joanne is a safe album cover but the music itself is also safe so i can understand why they didn't go all out on it lol but i really hope lobser eye can turn it OUT for the next album

She didn’t want to go completely bankrupt, I guess :emma:

she could have saved money by not having all the cameos in the GUY video :selena:

yeah, it's only really artists who have fanbases who mainly buy physical that put a lot of work into this :noparty:

but even as a limited edition, they wouldn't have to spend so much as producing something this creative for the standard copy

When I picture BTW’s cover, I see the deluxe one. The other one doesn’t exist :selena:

That would be awesome but I kinda get why it's not so cool.

1. I realized after reading some old tweet that she\interscope probably got into trouble with the album Booklet and this is why we got that "simple" version instead of the beautiful version she posted on Instagram once. After that pic she tweeted about "meeting for the album booklet" so it's likely they had to change stuff.

2. The "Physical" market is not so strong as it used to be and sadly the artists are leaving the "collector's\special" editions behind. I mean, after TFM Mega Deluxe at least we got the BEAUTIFUL BTW Picture Disc boxset... but for ARTPOP & Joanne we got nothing (they even stopped with the "USB" thing). (P.S. FUNNY BECAUSE CHEEK TO CHEEK BOXSET IS JUST OUT OF THIS WORLD).

3. The foil thing was about the first half-million copies and ARTPOP If I remember correctly is around like 750k\800k in pure sales... there are more foil copies than normal ones :laughga:
