EP 2: Maki in Malibu

Maki: a Japanese dish consisting of sushi and raw vegetables wrapped in seaweed.

NOBU

It's Gaga's 32nd birthday! And to celebrate her legendary life, Christian and Gaga grab dinner at Nobu, a world-renowned Japanese sushi restaurant with a huge A-List celebrity following (the Kardashians, the Jenners, the Beckhams, Bradley Cooper, Mariah Carey, Justin Bieber, Leonardo di Caprio, Leonardo da Vinci -- you name it!). Nobu also has a bunch of locations across the globe (22 to be exact).

We know the Hollywood Power Top Couple was here based on paparazzi snaps from outside the restaurant, taken as the two were leaving.

Gaga is seen here serving Deer in Headlights realness

And Christian is giving us 'skinny jeans from the teen section of Urban Outfitters.' We love a cool Dad.

...Anyway, back to Nobu!

The pictures of the restaurant really speak for themselves. Stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, tasteful pine and teak furniture, bright blue skies, plenty of greenery and fresh air.

According to their website, Nobu is supposedly one of the most instagrammed restaurants in the world (and I can definitely see why :diane:). Reviews for the restaurant on Google are pretty much overwhelmingly positive, and the only real "negative" I could find was that reservations are hard to get.

Seeing as Gaga had dinner here, it would've looked more like this:

I should mention that Gaga is a long-time patron of Nobu. Here she is visiting the restaurant in 2009 to celebrate Madonna's latest single "Celebration" going triple aluminum in the US

I'm getting hungry so without further ado, let's dig into the food :poot: Nobu has separate breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus, but since Gaga came here at night we'll only focus on dinner. I'm scrolling through the menu right now and they've got a bunch of stuff that looks tasty as hell

Under "Cold" dishes are appetizers: a classic Seafood Ceviche for $26, Fluke Sashimi with Dried Miso and Yuzu for $30, field greens with Matsuhisa Dressing for $14, King Crab Salad for $38, Tuna Cilantro Salad for $36, and plenty more.

Spoiler

[from Wikipedia]

Ceviche: typically made from fresh raw fish cured in citrus juices, such as lemon or lime, and spiced with ají or chili peppers. Additional seasonings, such as chopped onions, salt, and cilantro, may also be added.

Fluke: a type of fish

Sashimi: a Japanese delicacy consisting of very fresh raw meat or fish sliced into thin pieces.

Miso: a traditional Japanese seasoning produced by fermenting soybeans with salt and koji (a fungus) and sometimes rice, barley, or other ingredients.

Yuzu: an Asian citrus fruit

Matsuhisa: the last name of the restaurant owner -- Nobu Matsuhisa :poot:

And under "Hot" dishes, they have Nobu's signature dish, Black Cod with Miso ($38).

Spoiler

Amazu: a Japanese sweet and sour sauce. (Cooksinfo.com)

Ponzu: a citrus-based sauce commonly used in Japanese cuisine. (Wikipedia)

The menu's second page is dedicated to sushi and sashimi, and has some classic choices (big-eye tuna, shrimp, california roll, eel roll, etc.). Rolls range from $5 to $36 a piece.

And if you're not feeling any of the above, get yourself a taco! They have everything from tuna and lobster to ribeye and Wagyu (Japanese beef). Prices range from $5 to $15 per taco, depending on what filling you choose.

No word on what Gaga ordered, but I'm going to guess that she kept it light and got the Squid Pasta with Light Garlic Sauce ($25) and the Tuna Cilantro Salad ($36).

Here she is leaving again, looking like she's about to slice a neck and make love to Matt Bomer.

While we can't be sure what the Poot Lovato is going on in this picture, she looks like she had a great time. Happy Birthday Queen!

:poot: Punk's Pick :poot:

Based on past experience, my sushi limit per sitting is about 18 pieces before I throw up. Let's say 15 pieces, and throw in a couple of sides. I'll do:

1 Lobster Shiitake Salad with Spicy Lemon Dressing ($62)
1 Black Cod with Miso ($38)

And for sushi I'll go with:

3 Spicy Big-eye tuna rolls ($10.50 each)
3 Eel Cucumber rolls ($15 each)
3 Shrimp Tempura rolls ($14 each)
2 Octopus sashimi ($6 each)
2 Snow crab sashimi ($7 each)
2 Japanese snapper sashimi ($8 each)

And let's throw in a miso soup ($6) for the heck of it.

That comes out to...

$267
