Of course, another day, another Katy Perry discount. This is becoming some sort of ritual to get all her songs to peak at #1.

This is a simpler formula to calculate the Hot 100 points for a song and once you calculate the points of all the songs in the top 10 you can determine each songs respective positions.

http://atrl.net/foru...ad.php?t=251830

55% for Airplay. 1 million audience impressions = 1 point. (10 million audience impressions = 10 points.)

35% for Digital Sales. 1,000 copies sold = 1 point. (100,000 copies sold = 100 points.)

10% for Streaming. Every 10,000 plays = 1 point. (100,000 plays = 10 points).

(10 x 0.55) + (100 x 0.35) + (10 x 0.10) = 5.5 + 35 + 1 --- Total Points: 41.5.

If only I knew where to get audience impressions, digital sales, and streaming plays. If any of you know where I can obtain audience impressions, digital sales, and streaming plays don't hesitate to PM me! :)

EDIT: I would just like to mention that I believe that airplay percentage rates are FAR too high and airplay by no means should count for more than half of a songs chart performance, if anything it should be the other way around (55% for Digital Sales and 35% for Radio Airplay).

Above formula states

Billboard points =

[sales/K * 35%] + [Airplay/mAI * 55%] + [streaming/K * 1%]

I use

[sales/K * 65%] +[ Airplay/mAI] + [streaming/K * 5%] (but nb Mediabase Airplay * approx 78% = BDS/Nielsen figure that Billboard use)

That's essentially the sames Sales/Airplay ratio but I make it that streaming is about 3 X more important - that's needed to explain why e.g. Bieber's Boyfriend did not get #1.

A lot of people make the error of thinking that the % multipliers in the above equations represents the proportions that the elements contribute to the Hot 100. Just because airplay has the highest multiplier does not mean that it makes overall the highest contribution.

The top 30 or so songs for the week just gone I calculate totalled 2942K sales, 1832m AI airplay and 11760K streams. when you multiply to get points for the Hot 100 (my formula) that becomes 1912 points from sales, 1832 points from airplay, and 588 points from streams which are proportions 44% sales, 42% airplay, 14% streaming.

One thing I've noticed is that in weeks where sales are overall lower, the sales count for more, and in weeks where sales are high they count for less. So in the last couple of weeks where sales are low I've had to increase its multiplier up from 62% to 65% to make the figures match will Hot100 positions correctly. That suggests to me that Billboard do not use fixed multipliers but work it out relative to total contributions from sales/airplay/streaming. I'm feeling the ratio used is 45% sales, 40% airplay and 15% streaming by going back over all the weeks since the new rules came in, and so the multipliers need adjusting weekly to make those ratios.

I wrote algorithm to find correct formula. I assumed:

Points = A*Sales[K] + B*Airplay[millions] + C*Streaming[K].

and:

A + B + C = 100%

1 - (A + B) = C

0 < A, B, C < 1

I used Billboard data(sales, airplay, streaming) from last 3 charts. Possible options:

I must have more data to find one correct formula.

So, she actually did it. And here I was thinking that she might get a number one the proper way. I shouldn't blame her though, because it very well could be that her label did it without her knowledge or agreement. Either way though, it's a rather unfair way of dealing with the situation.

And honestly, now I take back what I said earlier. If they're gonna go the easy way of getting to the top, than by all means, Whistle, please take over.
