Trump Says He Would Have Rushed in Unarmed to Stop School Shooting

WASHINGTON — President Trump asserted Monday that he would have rushed in to save the students and teachers of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School from a gunman with an assault weapon, even if he was unarmed at the time of the massacre.

Speaking to a meeting of the country’s governors at the White House, Mr. Trump conceded that “you don’t know until you test it.” But he said he believed he would have exhibited bravery “even if I didn’t have a weapon, and I think most of the people in this room would have done that, too.”

The president’s remarks came during an hourlong televised conversation with the governors in the State Dining Room, during which Mr. Trump continued to grapple publicly with how best to respond to the mass shooting in Parkland, Fla., discussing such things as arming teachers and reopening mental institutions.

As Mr. Trump skipped from one possible solution to another, he mused about the “old days,” when potential criminals could be locked in mental hospitals, and he vowed to ban “bump stocks,” an accessory that can make a semiautomatic weapon fire rapidly, more like an automatic rifle. But he dropped any mention of raising the age required to purchase a rifle to 21 from 18, something he said last week he supported, despite opposition from the National Rifle Association.

But the president continued his dayslong verbal assault on Florida sheriff’s deputies, calling their reported failure to respond to the Parkland school massacre, which killed 17 staff members and students, “disgusting” and “a disgrace.” He said the deputies “weren’t exactly Medal of Honor winners, all right.”

A lawyer for Deputy Scot Peterson of the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said Monday in a statement that Mr. Peterson did not run into the school when the shooting began because he thought the shots were coming from the outside. Mr. Peterson retired Thursday after Sheriff Scott Israel branded him “a coward” for failing to run into the building to try to save students.

Mr. Trump echoed that sentiment, saying that the performance of Mr. Peterson and three other deputies whose actions have been questioned “was, frankly, disgusting.”

Later, he added that “the way they performed was really a disgrace.”

Let's also note that Trump and Republicans suddenly think it's fine to go after cops for not doing a good job.

Not possible.

Dear Mr. Pressedent is old and not healthy, it's impossible for him to actually run fast inside a school, to climb some stairs, to run all across the classes to catch the shooter AND to jump on the shooter and stop him completely.

So, he's delululululululululu once again.

I’m pretty sure he would have found a way.  After all, he is a “very stable genius” :ladyhaha:

When I first read the quote a few days ago, I couldn’t help but laugh. Everything and he’s and does reads like a parody of sorts. Nothing makes sense with this man, particularly his delusional claims of grandeur.

Everyone knows he would hide in a corner, just like he tried to do when that person almost ran on stage during his campaign speech. :flop:

Maybe he'll bring some guys to lift him and run :selena:

But I hope the school has some instruction and signs because he can't really think by himself..

Two things:

1) Trump sounds like a fascist leader who can do no wrong. Everyone will say the same, but unless you're in the moment, you don't know how hard it is to just 'rushed in to save the students'. The victims die almost instantly from the gun wounds due to the type of guns and bullets. It is a very scary scene to be in.

2) A dead cop is not what we need if he ran in and got shot. Sure this is tragic, but to call Mr.Peterson a coward and slam the deputies for not 'running in' is not how we can solve the gun control issue. Also, these were 'good guys with the guns' and they didn't shoot the bad guy. How can we assume teachers and other staff won't flake based on (legitimate) fear?

Stuff it, Trump and do something.

I fell down the stairs once as an actor.

Not only is he delusional but this is also just rude. To call someone a coward when they're in a traumatic experience is wrong, and to say "I would have saved them" is also just a really crappy thing to say when there are potentially survivors and victims families watching. A school shooting is not the time to make yourself sound good.

Don't forget about those veeeery serious bone spurs that prevented him from putting himself in harms way while serving our country :diane: The man's a saint, obviously. And a genius. I mean, what genius wouldn't run into an active shooter situation unarmed and with no plan? :diane:
