A lot of fans had a hard time after Joanne was released because this album was a noticeable departure from Gaga's old material. However this doesn't mean Gaga's old style can't be found on some places.

From what I've seen the first options when people discuss this are:

1. Perfect Illusion

It has shouting vocals, anthemic production, monumental chorus. It also has ''a feeling of tension'' which reminds me of Bad Romance, Judas, Venus, some of Gaga's most fundamental songs.

2. Dancin' In Circles

Catchy, modern, dance-y. Mark even linked this song with Alejandro. Even so some say it lacks a strong chorus, one of Gaga's trademarks.

3. John Wayne

This is the most electronic Joanne song. Visually and sonically the most Gaga-esque song on Joanne in my opinion, and the perfect combination of her old style this country aesthetic.

4. A-YO

One critic said it's like MANiCURE combined with a little bit of Americano.

5. Diamond Heart

This song has some electronic elements on it too and it doesn't feel like it's a big discrepancy to Gaga's old material except the fact that it's simpler and more rock-oriented.

6. Million Reasons

Because there is no Lady Gaga album without a nice ballad.

So which one do you think is the most similar to Gaga's pre-Joanne material?

Just Another Day!  :spin:

Reminded me of Old Gaga a lot! Very Captivated/Brown Eyes esque. :flutter:

Dancin' in Circles definitely

Then I'd say John Wayne and Angel Down (very tormented dark Gaga ballad like she used to write tbh)

I thought the exact same when I first heard it!!!! :queenga:

It's as though it could have been a bonus track off the Fame or something.

DIC. It sounds like Born This Way Gaga during verses and background vocals, and like The Fame Gaga during the chorus.

Completely agree, you nailed it. To me, especially the bridge with "tap down these boots while I beat around, let's funk downtown" has her super FameGa voice, that's almost reminiscent of Gwen Stefani

"Dancin in Circles" sounds like quintessential Gaga: a dance-pop song with numerous styles and influences at work, one catchy hook after another, sexy and witty lyrics, and vocals that range from full-throated to spoken to whispery and seductive.
