Katy opened up a bit about her decline in 2017 in a new interview with Glamour mag.

Cleo (interviewer and friend): What parts of that journey have surprised you?

Katy: You know, I had a lot of expectations at the end of 2015 and the end of 2016 that weren’t met. That was the first time, in a long time, that I didn’t get my way. I think it was the universe’s way of testing me, of saying, “We’re going to see if you really do love yourself.” That was challenging for me, because I didn’t realize how much I relied on the outside validation. I thought that I didn’t, but once you get kicked down the mountain a little bit, you realize that the weather really is better at the top. It’s been really necessary for me to go through that. [And I’ve learned that] people don’t relate to someone who is perfect or always winning anyway. You can’t always be sitting perched on top of the mountain.

She also shared something that makes me wonder who she's talking about:

Katy: When I was first getting to Hollywood and meeting my heroes like Gwen Stefani and a couple others, one was amazing—she introduced herself and asked my name—but one just brushed me off. I’ll never forget how that made me feel.

Most of these celebrities sound like phrases-generating machines everyone has already heard a million times, I can't help it :toofunny:

Too many people here with moral superiority complex.

I know the media’s perpetuated some weird feud between her and Gaga since 2013 and all but people really do need to give her a break. Out of all the horribleness and bad people we’ve endured Katy really isn’t one of them. She seems genuinely kind and like she wants to do good but gets lost sometimes. I hope 2018 can bring a good comeback for her. I’ve always been a katy fan but after seeing how she handled hitting a low point, I think she’s proved herself as an artist and is going to bring us something wonderful.

in the strangest way, Katy's decline made me like her again, like I did during the One of The Boys era

A nice dose of humble pie is great, and will make her a more likable artist going forward.

hopefully her next album is much better, i wonder if she'll be brave enough to break away from her young audience to create more adult/serious music

Most female artists are in decline and her having the shittiest pop record any female had had last year did not help.

I don't see her being on top again tbh

I know we all love to poke fun at her (myself included) but this past week I have noticed how Katy has handled her era and I have so much respect for her. She's truly been being the bigger person and I'm glad for her. I hope she can come back with a great album. Go the folk inspired route like you said you would :grr: Katy's vocals on Fleetwood Mac inspired songs with her own twist, would slay. Just don't let it be a Younger Now lmaooo

Gaga and Katy came into the music scene around the same time so I doubt it was Gaga. They were both just starting out at that point.

Madonna on the other hand.... :reductive:
