JustinLovesGaga 883
Hello, everyone! With A Star Is Born quickly approaching, what is everyone's early predictions for the box office? A lot of important variables we need to consider including the marketing plan, the soundtrack, and of course - Gaga's performance. If this movie is critically panned, this will heavily effect the box office! Below I have examples of other musicals, how much money they made at the box office, and how they were received critically. A Star Is Born (1976) - $80 Million / Received mixed to negative reviews from critics West Side Story (1961) - $43.7 Million / Received glowingly positive reviews from critics Les Miserables (2012) - $441.8 Million / Received lukewarm positive reviews from critics Grease (1978) - $395 / Received mostly positive reviews from critics The Bodyguard (1992) - $411 Million / Received mixed to negative reviews from critics Pitch Perfect (2012) - $115.4 Million / Received mostly positive reviews from critics La La Land (2016) - $446.1 Million / Received strong positive reviews from critics The Greatest Showman (2017) - $290.4 and counting / Received mixed reviews from critics POLL IS IN MILLIONS
Runway 27,876
I’m expecting meh reviews just like Barbra’s version with praise for her musical performances
KyliesChild 16,907
I'm going to assume that the reception she'll receive for the movie will be somewhat positive, however the movie as a whole would probably be getting indifferent reviews simply because of who she is working with. For instance: many of the producers and writers she's working with were involved in movies that were teared to shreds by the GP and critics. Plus, it is Bradley's directorial debut. Another remake of this movie is a bit unnecessary so fans shouldn't keep their hopes up.
Haroon 49,685
When I first saw the poll I thought you were trolling because I didn't think you meant it in millions I'm not really good with numbers but based on the ones in the OP I'd say maybe $66-$125 Maybe $126-$175 I don't know really, I don't see it being a big release for some reason Wouldn't mind being proven wrong though, but overall it doesn't matter to me anyway, I'll gladly watch it whether it's in a packed cinema room or an empty cinema room
AlexanderMagno 10,746
Expect mixed to negative reviews. It's Bradley Cooper's debut as a director (it's not very common to see actors who become directors receive critical acclaim in their debuts) and Lady Gaga has a few mixed reviews in her baggage. Plus, it's a remake, and reviewers might find it too different from the original or far from the original concept. And the only person who might give this movie a nice box office is Bradley Cooper. In fact, I think the real box office numbers you should be posting are from Bradley Cooper's movies. An actor's latest movies are the best factors, not similar genre movies (just look at Les Mis and Pitch Perfect from the same year). I don't think ASIB will be promoted as a big movie like La La Land. So, I think 126-175 would be an amazing number. More than that sounds unlikely for now. DeleteMyAccount 11,881
$26-65 because it seems like it'll be rated R. And most R films usually have lower expectations at the box office. We also don't know if this film will be wide released or not. Something tells me it'll be a smaller success but with praise for the music.
LUO YI 6,089
I'm ducked if it's Rated R I'll probably buy the soundtrack and that's it because us younger fans won't have a chance to watch it The night sky tells all
That J 12,166
$72.3 entire domestic USA theatrical run. I'm going on the low end. The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than The Driver Of The Screw
SychosSoChic 9,995
26-65 Don't get your hopes up. Imho the best case scenario is Gaga does well enough to get noticed for future endeavors. It would be nice for a popstar to not be an awful actress Life ain't Hollywood for any one of us.
