Mer Girl

I have good news :teehee:

I've always hated and bashed Erotica, but i'm finally getting into it. Waiting & Erotica>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Waiting is one of my favorite songs of hers. It's so amazing and mellow. I really wanted to add it to my queue at work, but it has the word *** in it, so I decided that was a no-go haha

I'm pretty much over the Madonna/Gaga 'fight'. But I do wonder, when Gaga is promoting her next album, what she will say about everything Madonna has said, and how she did a mash up of BTW/EY/SN. Because she is bound to be asked, with all the drama surrounding it.

Anyway yeah I'd say the median Madonna fan age is 30. Which I'm more than fine with 'cuz I'd rather be next to some 30 year olds at a concert than high school students ANYDAY lol.

Really? I think the median Madonna fan is a female born between 1965-1980, old enough to be a tween or teen in her peak period pre-Erotica. So more like late 30s.

people who think they can use the excuse that madonna is horrible to her own fans need to take a seat. since the confessions tour she has been rehearsing sometimes for up to two (!)hours while her fans are there. and for the new tour she's always talking and interacting with them. why is the media always quiet about this?

your fave?

My fave does the same.

Let's say that all 8 million of her twitter followers are big fans who like her and her music.

Dude, Gaga's Twitter count is at 27 million, how behind are you?

Since the last couple of pages have once again had lots of conflict potential, I'd like to comment on two things.

Recent "Born This Way" Comment

I have a hard time understanding why people always have to use the word "shade." I'm hoping to not offend anyone in particular but I think that people are being very oversensitive these days. I understand there is always a certain kind of verbal protection instinct involved by any fan base, but to me this is annoying when it is made use of at any given opportunity.

I don't see what Madonna said in that Brazilian interview as offensive, "shady," or b---hy. She was obviously joking. Those that have followed Madonna's career over the years will notice that this is her sense of humor and not a slap in the face for Gaga. As Madonna said herself not too long ago: "People don't really understand irony anymore."

I am definitely not looking for an excuse, I am not trying to defend her. But one must admit that her comment was indeed funny and amusing.

On a side note, why do they always have to overdub the original sound track for interviews?

Influence on Mainstream Culture

Someone also brought up Madonna's decreasing influence on mainstream culture. I think it was Xavier saying Madonna used to have a strong impact that would form her legacy in the 80s and 90s but her work after the millennium has been by far less influential. I have to agree with this. But I think there is a reason why she has gotten a little "slow" or why she was late on things in terms of sound on "Hard Candy" and "MDNA."

Madonna profited from the evolution of sub genres that had not been introduced to a major audience yet. 20 years ago, the media wasn't what it is today. The internet was in its early stages of development. It took years until underground culture reached an omnipresence. But back then (and this is what has always been Madonna's main ability) Madonna would adapt these previously unseen images and sounds to create a "very own version of the future." Even though it was not her development, her adaption is what made her genius.

What worked twelve years ago, doesn't work nowadays. Not because she has lost her ability to do it, but because circumstances for artists have changed. Madonna is one of a kind. She is an artist that comes from a different time. And you see that when looking at how few effort has been made to actualize the brand Madonna for 2012. She has an irrelevant Facebook account, no Twitter anymore (which was great when she was actually communicating with the fans) and her website is a random internet representation.

Distribution of information is light years quicker than it was in 1993. The time window to adapt new trends at times when they are still unknown is too small for Madonna to fully create the "very own version of the future." Trends come and go on YouTube, Facebook and other multimedia sharing sites. But Madonna is no longer able to make new things her own because she learns about them at the same time everybody else does.
