ALX 170
Same. It's a great album, but it's probably her most overrated Except for Ray of Light is beyond overrated.
LittleDudeNT5 0
My judgement isn't one of ignorance. I think Madonna's contribution to pop culture is unquestioned and I thought her discography and visuals from the 80s and 90s were amazing. That being said, I think just about everything shes made after Ray of Light is a faint, pretentious, superficial shadow of what shes capable of doing. People are sucking her dick lately because they just barely discovered her yesterday What they're failing to recognize is that what she currently creates is no longer fitting of her title. She's now a fabulously nostalgic touring act like Cher and Janet Jackson. Nothing more and nothing less. I wasn't just "rolling" at you. I'm tired of her attitude currently and the fan's attitude. From both sides. And I disagree on your statement that Ray of Light was her last creative effort. I think you'll find some things after that have been very well done and interesting without being "faint" or "pretentious". All of it is just tiring and a waste of time. Idk why it's so hard to like two artists from the same genre without getting **** tossed in your face from every direction.
LittleDudeNT5 0
It's definitely not overrated around these parts. I think if we strip away the imagery from the Erotica era, people's opinions on the album would be vastly different. Idk about that. I haven't heard THAT much "praise" for Erotica. Truthfully, I don't care about the visuals. I know a lot of people - including the general public - remember Erotica because of the Sex book and because she made racy videos. But I actually really like the album for it's music. I think it sounds different and interesting. And the overall sound/genre of the album appeals to me. GlitterGrease 53
Except for Ray of Light is beyond overrated. Well yeah, I can see why someone would think Ray of Light is incredible/her best album though. Erotica, as an album, just doesn't warrant the hype I see it receive alot. Confessions is the only album after Ray of Light that I consider a good pop album. Even then I thought it wasn't her best work. American Life is a disgustingly pretentious attempt at creating a meaningful political album. Not only was it painfully dull but it wasn't executed well. Hard Candy, Music, and MDNA are nothing more than reflections of the time they were released. Which is fine I suppose but they're nothing to write home about honestly. Idk I do love old Madonna. I just think shes not an artist anymore. She's basic. So why kneel before her and suck her off. Edited July 23, 2012 by Xavier
Chucky 39
Same. It's a great album, but it's probably her most overrated I prefer hard candy tbh. But I do love a lot of songs on it. The bad form video alone is certainly one of her best. :legend:

You make a few good points, but how is French electronica a reflection of the year 2000?
TheNight 2
Oh yeah. It's totally amazing how she has absolutely nothing to say anymore. And that her only means left for provocation is shading Gaga for press and revealing her nipple to a conservative country. What an inspiration. Yup. And I love every second of it. Queen of Life! Xavier 0
You make a few good points, but how is French electronica a reflection of the year 2000? Madonna takes influence from whats happening currently. Erotica and Vogue reflected the sound of the early 90s. Bedtime Stories reflected the urban/trip-hop sounds of the mid90s. Ray of Light reflected the ethereal late 90s sound in adult contemporary pop music as well. What made her special was her ability to put her own spin on those trends and create something uniquely Madonna. Electronic music was present in the year 2000, Madonna took that influence to create Music. Everything I say is arguable of course, its just my opinion. I thought her Music album was one of her worst. Although, I do love What It Feels Like For a Girl. Electronic music was present in the year 2000 (Moby, Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, and The Chemical Brothers). Edited July 23, 2012 by Xavier
Chucky 39
Madonnas attitude has really turned me off this era tbh. Still live her though:laughga:. Still Love her though. :laughga:
DaEdgeOfGloryYo 0
oh come on this one was actually funny "Happy I could help her make it" It's not that serious. You can tell by her little smirk that she's just having a laugh which I wish other people could do. Edited July 23, 2012 by DaEdgeOfGloryYo

I just think she brought it to mainstream American radio. I personally think the boyband/Britney/Christina sound was the sound of 2000. Music is my favorite M album, so I just wanted to see what you thought.
LittleDudeNT5 0
Thanks for ignoring my post. Confessions is the only album after Ray of Light that I consider a good pop album. Even then I thought it wasn't her best work. American Life is a disgustingly pretentious attempt at creating a meaningful political album. Not only was it painfully dull but it wasn't executed well. I just think shes not an artist anymore. She's basic. So why kneel before her and suck her off. How is American Life a pretentious album? You know that only 1 song on that album is actually a political statement? The rest is mostly personal with one comment on pop culture. I applaud Madonna for doing something different with that album. Because she doesn't have to just make less-inspired pop music (like Hard Candy or Music). In no way is American LIfe "pretentious". I know how it all has to do with opinion - but it's not has horrible as people make it out to be. They hear the title and think she's trying to be "edgy" by doing a political album. And the political statement in the title song isn't anything to scream about. Meaning it shouldn't put a stick up your butt. American Life shows how much of an artist she is more than a lot of the **** that came afterwards and even the stuff that came WAY before it. Just pointing out that I'm not too happy with Madonna's current situation. But I'm tired of people b---hing about it all the time. And would you quit it with the "sucking her dick" stuff? No one is doing that. The people who are "sucking her dick" are the ones who have been for years. Edited July 23, 2012 by LittleDudeNT5
