Lorde Should Have Won AOTY

Lorde made such a conceptual album with many deep lyrics and moments that really spoke to me as an individual. However, I think that her album can really connect with any person regardless or race, orientation, religion, etc. I can say, without bias, that Lorde should have won AOTY. I really disliked her first album because I thought it was basic, however, she really turned it around for her sophomore effort. The lyrics are amazing, the songs flow well together, and she's really telling a story with this album.

Melodramma Lyrics:

1. In my head I do everything right

2. I care for myself the way I used to care about you

3. Generation L-O-V-E-L-E-S-S

4. You're walking out, to be a good man for someone else

5. That green light, I'm waiting for it

Bruno on the other hand, had a very basic album. It panders towards men who want to objectify women and fist bump over their sexual conquests (not that other demographics cannot enjoy this album). The lyrics just disrespect and degrade women and that is not an album that should be rewarded. Bruno has an amazing voice and his dancing is phenomenal, however, he's a douche and comes across with an "I'm the sh*t" attitude. I just feel that since the big movement lately with the whole "me too" and "time's up" that it's inappropriate and irresponsible to reward an album that depicts women as mainly sexual beings when there is so much more to women than their bodies.

24K Who Cares Lyrics:

1. So many pretty girls around me and they waking up the rocket

2. Girl, you better have your hair weave strapped on tight, 'Cause once we get going, we rolling, We'll cha-cha 'til the morning

3. I love that dress but you won't need it anymore

4. You and your ass invited, So gon' and get to clappin

5. And nobody at the party droppin' it low like the way that you do

In summation, Melodramma is thought provoking and conceptual while 24K has bops but at the cost of objectifying women.

Quite ironic huh? And some people don't believe Kesha and Gaga's accusations. This is even more proof of the misogyny in the music industry.

James Gibson

Sober II (Melodrama) alone was the highlight of 2017 music, maybe even on this decade. This album is truly a masterpiece that should go on a museum alongside 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars' and 'Born This Way'

I one hundred percent agree, as do I bet many of the people here, but sadly we know the grammys do not like Lorde at all, and they would never let her win AOTY.

She wasn’t even nominated by popular vote but because they needed to fill the yearly female quota :rip:

SEXODUS

Lorde was hands down the best lyricist nominated in that category and Antonoff did some incredible job with those instrumentals. I can't see what's so special qualitatively speaking about 24k Magic, except it's catchy and radio-friendly.

Eh, I mean sure...Melodrama or DAMN deserved it among the nominees. That being said, the nominees weren't that great for such a great year in music? Furthermore, the Grammy's seem to only think men make worthy music--so it's not shocking they reward sexist music and lyrics or reward men (Sheeran) twice over a group of superior women (Pink, Clarkson, Kesha, Gaga, Lana).

If the album “spoke to you” how can you say “without bias” that it deserves AOTY?

Also this. She had no chance after she missed Pop Vocal.

Love the album though.

Well as much as I enjoyed Melodrama, I would've been surprised if it won AOTY. Sure Lorde might take the themes in a slightly different direction, but it's nothing special. Feelings after love, whether by a partner or friends, is relatable yeah, but tired and boring. It's also basic

Then consider something like Kendrick, he has an album about things like racism and violence, both within the black community and from society at large; loyalty and friendships; fears that plague him even after he's (I'm assuming) living life as a celebrated artist. I think that paints a much better picture of a person than melodrama.

Disclaimer, I only listened to melodrama and damn. I never really liked Bruno Mars, I only listened to Family Feud on 4:44 because beyonce was on it, and I loved Because the Internet too much to listen to Awaken my Love.

I meant It in that I didn’t come into the situation being Lorde’s biggest fan. I actually disliked her and she made new music that turned me (gay) into a fan. That’s one of the reasons I think she should’ve won.
