I don't know if there's any Kendrick Lamar fans here that can explain to me how he is considered a genius. To say that is an insult to every songwriter, writer and poet on this planet. The lyrics are just terrible, and hip-hop can be much better than that. But the GRAMMYs nominated this song for Record of the Year. See the lyrics. "HUMBLE." Well I mean Jeremiah 13:18 “Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down…” It has a number of variations but that's the King James Bible version and a few others. That's surely where he is referencing, he said himself that he is speaking about himself in the chorus. It's a cool way to position himself as the 'king' while also referencing the biblical story that teaches the responsibility of such a title and that kings must set an example of repentance and reformation for others. OT though: Humble is a pretty solid hip-hop song. It's braggadocious on the surface but filled with clever wordplay and interesting metaphors.
