Gaga has shaped my music taste over the years

The Fame Monster

I’ve always been very open minded towards all kind of music and there’s so many different genres I listen to nowadays. But there used to be a time when I was very selective of what I listen to, actually, before I discovered Lady Gaga.

When I started to listen to Gaga back in 2009, my interest for music started to grow. During The Fame and The Fame Monster era, I discovered classical music and 80’s music through Gaga’s music. During Born This Way I started experience 80’s music even more. ARTPOP got me excited for very experimental and aggressive music. And now during Joanne era, I’ve started to really enjoy soft rock and folk music.

I’ve always wondered why so many fans have dropped while Gaga has started a new era with different kind of music. Do they only listen to just one kind of music?

Same here!

I listen & appreciate Jazz music way more than I did before C2C. I started listening to Hard Rock, Metal & Rock music thanks to her. I even listen to some country music sometimes, which I hardly ever did before Joanne.

I guess she helped us widen our horizons.

I find it really interesting because Gaga has a lot of influences that I like, and others that I don't.

As you said, her third three albums are very 80's influenced, but I don't like this music at all (for the most part, disco and pop... rock music from the 80's was good though). But for some reason, I like her music and the way she uses these influences. I don't like Madonna's or Bowie's music (I have more respect for Bowie though) either.
I'm not into electronic music at all, I like some songs here and there but usually, it's a big no for me. And yet I love ARTPOP, where she experimented the most with electronic music.

And then she has other influences that I like. Jazz, rock, even metal... I have always liked jazz but I never decided to go listen to it by myself until she did C2C. I wouldn't say I'm more interested in rock and metal since Gaga, it's just musical discoveries that I have made through the years. I don't hate country/folk but I don't love it either, but I like the way she used it in Joanne.

In general I think she's a big music lover and wants her fans to discover other types of music through her pop music. Some narrow-minded fans will complain whenever she does something a bit different than dance-pop, and others will take the opportunity and discover these other genres.

I agree so much on this before Gaga I was a charts-only music lover and I stanned britney or who was ruling the top10 or top40 but after Gaga I've gotten to know who Frank Sinatra is and a lot of artists like Stevie Wonder, because of her tributes, who are legends but didnt know before and now I have all kinds of genres on my library most of them arent even pop anymore.

Same.

during TFM I was really into electronic music, BTW got me into more classic music (70-90s) and during ARTPOP I liked raging, crazy music.

Joanne made me look for the toned down, not try-hard music.

Thanks gaga.

Gaga introduced me to Zedd and Kendrick waaaay before they blew up, plus a whole lot more artists and genres. I'm forever grateful.
