Ugh I really hope they push this song. A bunch of my friends love this song so much because they can relate

If G.U.Y. wasn't then Joanne will be as dead as the person who inspired it

Guy was released at a time when gaga was viewed negatively and the song is not as relatable as Joanne.

No shade, but almost every song that gets lots of radio airplay becomes a hit. Radio is still very important, mostly because it inserts the song into people's minds. So... Of course it will be a hit if radio supports it.

The real discussion is, will the radio support it?

Just because radio plays songs it does not mean they will become hits. Many songs end up fading even after radio pushed them.

Your two threads seem to be contradictory

Joanne the era and music was not designed to be trendy hits. However, Gaga still wants the music to be successful and the songs can still end up becoming hits.

"radio support" would be if her team pay the checks and if even million reasons which feel a lil bit more... commercial.... only picked up after the FKING SUPERBOWL i really woudn't get my hopes up...

But at least there will be the grammy performance and the song might rocket inside itunes top100! that would be cute...

But do you think the GP are actually that influenced by a few articles on her that view her negatively? People view Migos negatively yet they're still doing well. G.U.Y. flopped because it wasn't promoted and received little attention. They don't care about who Gaga is and how she acts or whatever, it's about the music, not about an article saying she's over "influencing" their decision to buy the song or not

Trust me, this will flop too if it receives single treatment, which I doubt anyway

doppelganger

I don’t think the song will be pushed to US radio. Maybe AC radio but unlikely

The video, grammy performance and hopefully a grammy win or two will give the album an extra push though.

The whole media was calling Gaga and ARTPOP a flop. That definetily has some impact on the GP. However, the song was not relatable and it was not pushed by the radio.

it was not just about the articles, the general public was already bored with Gaga back then, and thats a fact!

That's the only reason it flopped

No1 is delusional, but at least a top15 for some 4 weeks seems possible. And a song that could work in europe.

Mostly it's the best parting gift and if it has any impact, it can heal much of her reputation, cause it induces sympathy. It would close the chapter of Gaga being a attention seeker, not talented and awkward to a new level that would allow for that old Gaga to move more free

REALITY

Well of course if radio supports it, it will become a hit. That's practically a given. The more a song is played on the radio, the more people get the listen to it, the more people know about the song, the more popular the song becomes.

Personally, Joanne (the song) has always been a "hit" or "miss." To be honest, there are some days where I really love the song, but then other days where I'd rather skip it. It's an emotional song no doubt, and I do think that it's very relatable, but I have just never seen it as single potential. I don't think that it will become a single, nor do I think her or her label will treat it as a single. I think that this is the official "goodbye" from the Joanne era—of the tour will still be going, but I guess it'd be the official public "goodbye."
