I think she suffered from depression? Or was it PTSD?

Either way, no, I don't think in her later years she was a very happy person.

i don't believe a happy person ever existed tbh

i mean i'm sure she had her happy moments but overall i think she was most of the time sad/depressed

... and now i just sit in silence.

She didn't kill herself. She was murdered.

this post made me evaluate quite a lot of existential dread I have eternally perpetuated around myself and I'm... speechless

Yo GagaGaga

I don't think she was happy.

She's apparently had more than 10 abortions, she had a drug problem, she (probably) had an affair with the president, It seems like she was covering up a lot of pain

I guess I have always been
deeply terrified at to really be someone’s
wife
since I know from life
one cannot love another,
ever, really

Oh damn I wish that I were
dead — absolutely nonexistent —
gone away from here — from
everywhere but how would I do it
There is always bridges — the Brooklyn
bridge —
But I love that bridge (everything is beautiful from there
and the air is so clean) walking it seems
peaceful there even with all those
cars going crazy underneath. So
it would have to be some other bridge
an ugly one and with no view — except
I like in particular all bridges — there’s some-
thing about them and besides I’ve
never seen an ugly bridge

Only parts of us will ever
touch parts of others —
one’s own truth is just that really — one’s own truth.
We can only share the part that is within another’s knowing acceptable
so one
is for most part alone.
As it is meant to be in
evidently in nature — at best perhaps it could make
our understanding seek
another’s loneliness out.

Shhh, you can't say that in public. We have to pretend her death wasn't a shady fake suicide.

this is the state of grace, this is the worthwhile fight

The exact opposite. She seemed to have struggled with depression since a very young age. I remember she once said a quote like: "When I was a little girl, no one ever told me I was beautiful. All little girls should be told they're beautiful, even if they're not." That shows how much she allowed herself to be objectified and sexualised as she became an adult, she was making up for lost time, getting away from her plain Norma Jean persona that she was born into. She apparently had a drug problem after she made it big, she had affairs with married men, including JFK and his brother (which is pretty much confirmed at this point) and according to Joan Collins, who had met Marilyn years ago, did an interview lately in wake of the Weinstein scandal and said: "Marilyn has been so abused by men and had done so many things to get roles that she hadn't wanted to do and most of these men were fat and old and ugly and hideous." And there have been so many investigations into her death that disprove things said and done at the time that we are now aware by this point that it is highly unlikely that she committed suicide but was either accidentally killed or murdered. Unfortunately, the case was closed too long ago to amend it, so she'll never get the true knowledge of what happened that night.

Seriously?! I never heard that. I guess so few people used protection in the 60's that if you had sex frequently, you were bound to end up with more than a few unplanned pregnancies. It was clear that Marilyn knew how easily her career could be over as an actress in sexist, ageist Hollywood that she thought she had no other choice if she unexpectedly fell pregnant.
