Lol I literally had to make an account to post here because I didn’t feel this post portrayed the show as what it is.

Being exposed to Chinese media while living between China and North America, I can say that I Am A Singer is actually a really big show in China, and all the “contestants” are very talented. A lot of which are considered legends. Those who have pariticipated in the past have gained insane exposure to the Chinese population. The post and comments here seem to be making it a negative thing that Jessie J is being a part of this show, but I don’t see it that way. If you look up videos on YouTube, you will understand that it is a show for those who are vocally talented. Whether it was for money or not, being a part of this show does not make you desperate for money or what not.

I just wanted to point this out.

Thanks for the insight. Makes more sense now :queenga:

This show is super big in China. It’s true that some of the biggest music legends of the Chinese speaking community of China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Malaysia have joined the past seasons, even some people from overseas including Sandy Lam, Coco Lee etc. Some newer acts have even become some of the biggest after the show for example G.E.M.

Jessie J joining this is a smart move, she is going to make billions after this. This is not like she is joining The Voice, if you are on this show, it means you are recognized as one of the best vocalists. It’s a really high budget show that has the best people in music creating it.

Do I like the show? Probably not, coz you know competition in China can’t be fair and the audience voters really like shouty vocals and belts, so it’s more like technique > art. But no doubt being invited on the show is an achievement.

Shes a nobody in Asia. Why would she judge?

She is big in China. She was invited in November to perform to a huge crowd for the Alibaba Double 11 event, one of the biggest events of the country with 1.3 billion population.

Some Western acts who are not that popular but with good vocals are really popular in China, I mean, Adam Lambert sell out his shows in China in some of the biggest venues.

Jessie has been desperate for money for a while now. Hence her promotional deals with McDonalds, PopTarts, TUC Biscuits, Cadbury etc.

Chinese reality singing competition "Singer" (based on the Korean format "I Am a Singer") announced their contestants for the upcoming season on Hunan TV.

Jessie J will be competing against other local Chinese singers for votes in a weekly elimination-style format.

Um, no tea no shade, but she is only known for Bang Bang with Ariana and Nicki. And I’ve never heard about Adam Lambert in China.
