JustinLovesGaga 883
Taylor has two albums officially documented as being in the pop genre. Both have debuted #1 on Billboard 200 with over a million copies sold in it's first week, both have #1 lead singles, and both have positive reviews from critics with a 70+ Metacritic score. Both are mostly synth and electro pop, with 1989 being heavily inspired by 80s pop and reputation featuring heavier bass and a few trap influences. With all factors being considered, everything ranging from melodies and production, to writing and composition and track listing, which album is better? Decodekid 28,400
no shade but all songs in Reputation sound the same Long Live Gretchen
JustinLovesGaga 883
In my opinion, 1989 slightly beats reputation. I like the production better on 1989, I feel like it has a little bit more variety, and my favorite Taylor song of all time is Out of the Woods

rumours 45,521
1989 wins in my opinion. It has 3 or 4 songs that I wouldn't turn off if they came on the radio. I find a majority of Reputation to be unlistenable. New Year's Day and End Game are both alright. Just my opinion though
Haroon 49,685
They're both great but it's 1989 for me because that's like one of the best pop albums I've ever heard Like I wouldn't skip any track, I can easily (and enjoyably) listen from beginning to end It's just all so amazing
ArtPLAUSE 1,252
1989 is better. The lows are lower, but the highs are just amazing. I don't know how can people say that all rep songs sound the same

I don't know how can people say that all rep songs sound the same I totally agree. Blank Space, Style, Out of the Woods... wow what a trio. But yeah reputation, although not as varied as 1989, still sounds very distinctive to me
Battle 4 Ur Life 6,721
1989 is art. besides Shake It Off, which I can't bear listening to, I like all the songs. geopang 4,831
1989 was at least memorable. Some good pop bops
Girl Under You 332
reputation easily. Tay's songwriting is very distinctive, but 1989 could be sung by Katy Perry, Carly Rae Jepsen... I don't see any other pop artist singing reputation

NIGHTCRAWLER 6,985
It's really complicated, and I think that 1989 is better, even though I prefer Reputation. I dont skip any track listening to Reputation and I'm a big lover of electro synth and trap beat (BTW is my fav album from Gaga). I think Reputation is more original in the producing but 1989 is more reliable in the lyrics. The two albums are iconic overall. Spoiler In 1989, the composition is quite boring when you discover that she uses on almost every song the same building: high same melody based on 1 first chord, on 4 different bass notes: Blank Space Style You are in love Wonderland This Love Out of the woods (chorus) All You Had To Do Was Stay I wish you would Clean She does it as well on Reputation though, for example in Gorgeous, I Did Something Bad and Call It What You Want
