Before they were their own entity...a beautiful bonus and interpretation of a song. Now they are an essential addendum. They have become the single most important promotion for a song...it's really become the only promotion that matters. This is why the last 2 beyonce albums have been successful, they have been musical and visual i feel like the beyonce visual album wouldn't have had half of it's success without the aesthetically pleasing visuals, would just be another beyonce album

nattuggla 21,799
I think that in general a lot of the promo nowadays has shifted to be more passive way where the artist is not needed but it can be done by the team/label. Promo via social media or Spotify/radio payola can be done without the artist. While I think Gaga reduced the number of performances for promo (during the Joanne era) I think it was still good as they chose the best promo spots which showed the moste effective sales boosts. The only big promo spots which were missing in the US was The Voice and maybe one late night show. And music videos are also very important.

ShockPop 7,747
Work smart, not hard. That was the motto for Joanne promo. Big promo not lots of little promo. The reason she didn't do TV interviews etc was part of her rebuild to the gp. When she talks people don't understand her humour or think she's too pretentious or insane. So they pulled the plug on that kind of promo. With LG6 I think it'll be similar to Joanne but more internationally focused after the lead. She is about to hit her first US peak since 2012 with all the Americana. If she can keep some momentum into next year and pop out the lead then she could have a massive hit. After very little promo she can concentrate on overseas stuff like festivals etc where she doesn't need to talk too much but let's her music speak. RAMROD 109,647
It is just the way recording labels works tbh, it is like a house whose parents got a new born, they will put more attention to it than to their older child. Doesn't mean they neglect them altogether tho. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ dancin' until i'm dead (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡
GRIMEZSZ 3,309
Gaga just needed strong streaming, social media payola and good videos again, the promo of Joanne was little but smart!
Mr S 8,673
It's not a "bey approach". Once a star gets too big, they don't need to promote as much because everyone knows who they are. People like demi Gomez no one knows them so they need to show their face. It's always been this way. Madonna, Whitney, Michael, etc compare their first few albums promotion to their later ones. monketsharona 81,658
One thing is sure, artists need to release things quite often for not being forgotten, people are getting bored of new stuff very fast nowadays. + Gaga really need to improve the way she does and release music videos. Releasing a video 2 months (or not at all) after the single release if the best way possible to kill the potential of a single.
