I mean, basically it did. The postal vote was non-binding, but the results would guide the parliament in terms of how to vote. A bill for SSM has already passed the Senate 43 votes to 12, it's just working it's way through the lower house (hopefully without any amendments from the conservatives, managed to avoid that in the Senate). It's bound to happen soon
