For me, Joanne and Cheek To Cheek were more gimmicky than her old self.

Those eras were basically made to clean her image for the GP. In the next albuns she will probably be crazy as aways

It probably started out as something a little more catchy than Stefani Germanotta but, as John Updike put it: celebrity is a mask that eats into the face.

I'm sure the moniker grew to become her in a way. And that her Joanne persona was a necessary way for her to distance her from the Gaga part and recreate herself as a more "serious" artist.

Didn't she kind of confirm this in FF2? She has always done something outlandish in order to keep some type of control over herself and career.

Call it what you want. But you are still here for something.

Her core fans will always be here not because of her outfits, but because of what comes after she starts selling something. She's so freaking intelligent and eloquent, I bet you are still here because of how she sells herself in an interview, and you can't f*cking gimmick that. I'm ready for what she brings next.

If you read what I wrote, I said that she was a gimmick early in her career and in order to rise to fame, her artistry and her talent had to take a backseat. I never denied its existence anytime in her career ... all I'm saying now is that the world sees and respects her talent because it isn't blinded by the gimmicks.

Wanting to capture people's attention does not equate to gimmickry. I view it as more performance art, art that is designed to be attention grabbing. So I don't subscribe to the idea that her artistry was "taking a backseat" if anything, in comparison to her pop peers at the time, her artistry was allowed to be even more greatly realised. 

True the GP see's and respects her talent more so now because they find her outward appearance less distracting, but isn't that more of a comment on how tunnel vision-ed the GP are, rather than Gaga's artistic integrity.

Let me play devils advocate, perhaps Gaga is actually letting her artistic vision take a backseat now (in light of the ARTPOP backlash etc.), in order to garner a better public image and greater respect.

I don't think so. her personality has always been amateurishly fake and even if I don't like it sometimes, I don't mean it in a bad way. my point is, it's all exaggerated but honest and if anything, it's the Lady side that is more calculated.

Gaga's goal in life is to help people, and that's really the most important thing to her.  Some people think her stage persona is self-serving, but it's not.  Check out Gaga's thoughts about the reasons for her imagery in these two clips:

Maybe people don't believe anyone can be that good of a person, but Gaga really is that good of a person.
