Morphine Prince 109,650
SAN FRANCISCO — Uber on Tuesday disclosed it was the victim of a data breach last October that affected 57 million driver and rider accounts and that it fired its chief security officer, Joe Sullivan, for keeping the breach a secret for more than a year. The ride-hailing company said information on driver and rider names, emails and telephone numbers had been compromised by the attack. After the breach, two hackers approached Uber demanding payment for the stolen data and proof of the deletion of the data. Uber did not make the breach public and instead paid the hackers $100,000 to ensure the stolen data was expunged.

I never understood this whole Uber/AirBnB craze i dont know where u're from, but Uber here (SEAsia) is a big step up from conventional taxis. They put more transparency in transaction, more power for consumer and rights for drivers. Conventional taxi companies are ridden with rude drivers, shady fare calculations and overall more security problems: lost stuff, being robbed and held at knife point (both riders and drivers) are very common occurrences in these taxis. I support Uber though they obviously need to patch up their data protection. Regardless, i don't think there will ever be a perfect system.

Well, I do live in a small city (~100,000 people), so maybe that's why I never understood why people don't just take buses/metro instead of an uber. That is cheaper. If people don't have a big car in a big city like NYC, they will probably take the bus to work. Uber is mostly popular when people go on vacation, out for a night to drinking, or already drunk.

It depends on the circumstance If im going to Toronto from my city with friends to party for the night... its better to pay $40 for an uber and split the fare between friends (so like $10 for each person each way)... than to take a train than multiple buses where ur going Its like 1/3 of the time and not much more money If on a regular basis (or even on occasion) u have a specific route simple route then yes public transit is cheaper and just as good
