Before her, it was just the place fading stars would go to end their careers. After her, it became the place where stars like Britney Spears would go to solidify their status. I mean... sure, Britney was very successful, but calm down "...I will tell you that on the pop side Britney definitely took a chance with us. She’s a pioneer, she deserves all the credit and it really is the first pop residency. When you think of who came before her with Celine Dion, Elton John, Cher, Bette Midler, those were artists that were different from her. And so she said, “Okay, I’m gonna push into this.” And from there it cleared the path where we had interest from Jennifer Lopez, Backstreet Boys, Pitbull, we have Lionel Richie there as well." -Senior Vice President, Marketing and Entertainment at Caesars Entertainment Corporation, Jason Gastwirth https://www.forbes.com/sites/stevebaltin/2017/01/11/britney-spears-backstreet-boys-elton-john-and-the-las-vegas-residency/#2a73b72a7690

Stars likes her would never have considered it if Celine hadn’t paved the way. She changed the face of modern Vegas.” - Kurt Melien, vice president of entertainment at Caesars Palace http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/10477772/Why-is-Las-Vegas-gambling-15-million-on-Britney-Spears.html So what's the truth? Step forward, Celine Dion. Credited by many for revolutionising the Vegas residency, the Canadian singer surprised the entertainment world in 2002 when she announced a three-year contract at Caesars Palace. People were staggered, not just by the scale of the deal – performing five nights a week for a total of 600 shows – but also by the simple fact that she was still at the peak of her career. In the live music world, Las Vegas was always known as the place where acts went to die – where stars big and small could earn a crust in their twilight years entertaining tourists on the Strip alongside magicians like David Copperfield, or Siegfried and Roy. But Dion changed the game, turning residencies from a schmaltzy lounge act into a full theatrical extravaganza with pyrotechnics and Cirque du Soleil dancers. It proved a canny business decision. So much so that Dion has just extended her residency to 2019 – performing 70 shows a year, at $476,000 a night. Suddenly, the Vegas residency looks less like a last chance saloon, more like a legitimate career move. Britney's residency is just the ultimate confirmation of Celine's legacy. I guess that's an open debate given, the quotes from both articles. What's not open for debate is that Britney's talent won over some of her other peers; peers that performed songs of other artists rather than their own at this week's American Music Awards and who can neither headline a successful worldwide tour post-2007, nor ever successfully fill a Las Vegas residency 4 full years in. I can't get why people tought it was happening, team B never said anything about a performance it was just a rumour spread by Exhale and TMZ. I wasn't a fan at the time, but I realy don't get it why so many people had meltdowns over something that was never meant to happen.(Although I agree that that "desert thing" was realy dumb and pointless, Britney could have just went to GMA's studio instead ).
