I know the concept of Radio Payola and how you pay radios to play your songs. But I'm not familiar with Streaming Payola. How would you apply Payola to streams or views from platforms like YouTube and Spotify and many more? Does it exist?

And speaking of Payola.

Billboard has spilled the tea on Look What You Made Me Do.

"Swift's record label made a push to get "Look" to No. 1, then backed off, which led to the chart drop." -Billboard

I think the label has to pay to have a song included on the “big playlists” on streaming platforms. I may be wrong though, so feel free to quote and correct me

Too bad ha team didn't put as much money to payola the entire Witness Era. They were probably weirded out by Katy's actions:emma:

for spotify, songs gets placed over all the most popoular playlists and they could stay there for months even if the song doesn't get popoular. Meanwhile some songs get's barely playlisted at all even though they are hits on radio and sales (Million reasons :madge:). For youtube you buy placement for your video to play next automatic from other videos/shown on reccomended on other videos. You can even buy views there, obvious when a song who never was a hit to begin with goes from like getting 5 million views a day to 1 million in one day and then stays at 1 million for months and then suddenly get 5 million daily again :trollga:

I think on Apple music they pay to be on the hot tracks section, which features new music weekly. But sometimes older hits can remain there for a while. People often go to those first when browsing so I would consider that a form of payola. Plus the banner ads, but that's more like traditional advertising
