Why do you need a "reason" for TC performance?

because it is so complicated to perfectly time gaga's performance of the cure in Washington to be aired on live TV for an award show ''just for fun''. only reason that I can think of is that she is going to win female of the year (if she is even nominated i don't keep current on that stuff)

DJWS has produced a lot of songs though, just because he produced The Cure doesn't mean that the album will be "generic." I mean, maybe this performance is testing out how the sound of The Cure will be received, once again, by the public. In that case, then I suppose there will be a reason why it'll be "generic."

Exactly.  It'll be really cool to see a part of JWT with professional HD cameras on TV plus new choreography to it.  She's not going to release any new music anytime soon.  Fans are just going crazy only because she sang an unreleased song backstage to a small group of fans.  Most likely it will not get released.  No new solo album music until at least mid of 2018.

I mean, television performances typically act as promotion. The Cure, a stand-alone single, was pulled from radio months ago and the JWT is sold out—so the lack of a promotional aspect is confusing. It honestly makes the least sense out of any scenario, unless of course her team are planning to give The Cure a second run. Even performing a random song from Joanne, such as Diamond Heart or Dancing in Circles, would make more sense as it would at least generate album sales and interest. 

That all being said, perhaps she gets a slot as a nominee and potential winner? At the end of the day, it’s the lack of useful promo that baffles her fans the most I think...

I think there's some truth to the fact that this is just kinda unusual. The Cure has been getting no promo, she's been talking about another flower to bloom with Joanne, etc. I never had my hopes on Frankenstein or whatever, but performing The Cure just seems strange, especially since she's touring to perform and promote Joanne, so you'd think she'd do a Joanne song. 

No matter what happens, I'm looking forward to it, and I'm keeping my hopes low on the new music front, but I gotta agree with some my fellow lil detectives, something doesn't add up.

Because artists don't just perform to entertain. They perform to promote something or to celebrate something. Performances aren't random. They rarely are, if at all. Another thing is that The Cure isn't even a fan favorite nor a song that made history and that some people are actually feeling sorry that she didn't bother performing it when it was released and out of nowhere, she decided to perform it months later. It's not gonna help the song chart, no music video is likely coming for it so what's the point? Not to mention that everyone's been expecting a new song.

well how about her ignoring the existence of this song during all the spring and summer when the song had an actual chance to become a hit, she didn't even put a music video for it, she totally acted like she didn't care about this song at all, so we perform it now? why to bring this song to the table? the momentum of this song is gone thanks to her lack of interest on it when she should had.

This really annoys me because we all know that she was filming ASIB for 2-3 months solid, whilst doing Coachella in the middle of that and moving on straight to tour rehearsals. There was no time for promo or a music video to be shot. Give her a break!

EVERY award show performance is intended to PROMOTE something. They wouldn't even let someone perform without marketing something. 

So the POINT of all those questioning Gaga's performance is about the POINT of her Goddamn performance. What does it promote?
