And albums

OT: One Of My favourite Albums Of The Year, by one of my favourite artists in the game. I’m excited to see a pop girl album be the dominant force in pop culture for a while.

I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

I just don't understand how this is possible in the age of bad sales. Beyonce and Ed couldn't pull in these figures. Beyonce, with her goddess image, could only manage 653k (SPS) first week in the US. Ed, with the massive campaign surrounding his album and Shape of You slaying, could only pull in 451k (SPS) in his first week. The only one who can have sales that outstrip Taylor's is Adele, when she pulled in 3.4 million in her first week, but then, that was to be expected. With sales being what they are right now, I just don't get it. I know she had this scheme for fans to get tickets that involved pre-ordering that likely pulled in more sales, but still. Albums selling 1 million in the first week, just don't happen anymore unless you have a mega hit preceding it. LWYMMD was nowhere near the level of SIO, nor Blank Space that followed it. That album sold 1 million in the first week because it had 2 mega hits preceding it. But Reputation? LWYMMD only went #1 for 3 weeks and RFI is not taking off as expected. The promo singles aren't either. She might not have another #1 from this album. Yet, the sales are as high as ever. Utterly bizarre. I'm starting to wonder if her label are in any way responsible for inflating these figures.

Beyonce being a good album seller is a lie. Lemmonade sold barely 3 Million WW and people praise it as if it has sold 30 Million, Reputation will otsell it in 10 days and Adele's next album in 2-3 days. People should get off Beyonce's ass tbh.

While I don't agree with your support for Taylor, you hit the nail on the head with this. Lemonade barely sold more than ARTPOP and yet Gaga gets called a major flop and Beyonce is called a major success? Ok, AP was released in 2013, when sales were better and our expectations are lower now, but Lemonade was only released little over 2 years later, not that much of a difference. For all that Beyonce is praised for her sales, she relies heavily on marketing gimmicks to sell her music - surprise drops of the entire album in one go, every song has a music video, the album isn't available on free streaming platforms or YouTube (initially), controversial lyrics for attention. And then once the album's released, she performs a medley of songs at every tv performance to heavily promote it and remains massively elusive by rarely doing interviews or any appearances that aren't major awards shows so she isn't overexposed and seems exclusive. For all this, you'd think she'd sell so much more. As much as I have distaste for Taylor, Ed and Adele, what I can't fault them for is that they don't really use gimmicks. They just put their music out there (with singles preceding them and allow them on free music services - even Taylor does now) and the world buys it. Beyonce should really be called out more for her use of marketing strategies and air of exclusiveness to sell her music. It's the only way she can sell it now. She used to be an amazing album seller when she released albums traditionally but after 4 happened, she got scared, realised her days as a single seller were over and she'd look like a flop if she kept releasing albums like everyone else did. So, she came up with a scheme where her music was very exclusive and elusive and you were forced into buying the entire album to hear it, meaning there was no way of sampling it first to see if you liked it. Mark my words, she's really going to suffer if she keeps going this way. Lemonade is her second lowest-selling album even with this strategy, and it sold 2 million less than her last effort with the same strategy. The public are realising that she uses this gig to pawn off her music that is very polarising because she knows we might not buy it if she released it traditionally. Ironically, by becoming unpredictable with her music, she's become the most predictable. Now we know every Beyonce album will be a surprise visual album. The mystery's gone, the novelty's worn off.

oh please, Adele’s last album was very basic, yes good tunes but there was no depth, no pain in her lyrics. And beyonce is amazing but just further perpetuates a division between white and black people.

She is selling Millions since 2007, when she was still not playing the victim, don't be pressed.

Ok but that was before all the scandals. You have to admit that her marketing ploy for this album was completely centered around her victimizations and....Reputation. :gaysia:

no I am pretty sure those are albums they are talking about. I don't think iTunes has categories for victimization, ego, or white feminism yet.

I think it was centered around people relating to getting caught up in the wrong things and people and finding yourself as somebody you don't recognize anymore.
