Taylor Swift wants to sue journalist for criticizing her politics

Two months ago, Meghan Herning, editor of the website PopFront, wrote an article critical of Taylor Swift and her single “Look What You Made Me Do.” Herning noted that Swift is held up as a pop icon in the white-supremacist world and that many neo-Nazis believe that Swift secretly shares their beliefs. The post made note of “dog whistles to white supremacy in the lyrics of her latest single,” and it ended by calling on Swift to denounce white supremacy

Two weeks ago, Herning received a letter from William J. Briggs, II, an attorney representing Swift, demanding that she remove the story and issue a retraction. The letter labels Herning’s blog post as “provably false and defamatory” and threatens a lawsuit. In a new press release, the ACLU of Northern California has taken Herning’s side, writing that Herning’s blog post is “a mix of political speech and critical commentary” and that Swift’s lawyer’s claim is “meritless.” ACLU lawyer Michael Risher writes, “This is a completely unsupported attempt to suppress constitutionally protected speech.”

Taylor Swift wants to sue somebody, because she asked her to denounce Nazis and not stay silent. I guess we know whose side she's on now.

She’s not suing because they’re criticizing her politics, that’s a misleading headline.

Never once has she came out and said she supported the KKK or stood by White Supremacists and she has every right to sue them because they’re using a false narrative. I hope she gets them for defamation of character, libelous slander, and for using her name.

its not okay for people to think that she should be compared to Hitler.

There are more serious issues than Taylor Swift’s reputation to bother the court.

She shouldn’t have too, she’s an entertainer, some people just don’t like to be so outspoken. It’s not a crime to not go and tweet something. & she shouldn’t have to come out and say she’s not a white supremacist, because the only reason people are using that against her is because she’s a very famous and very successful white entertainer .

The article in question criticized Taylor Swift's political stance on refusing to comment on politics altogether, while also addressing that she has become an Icon of Neo-Nazis. The author asked Taylor to just say "Nazis are bad. I'm not one." and now the journalist is getting threatened by Taylor's lawyers.

It's her prerogative to not disclose her opinions, but wouldn't it be a lot easier to just make a statement saying "I don't support Nazis and I refuse to become a playing doll in their twisted mindgames" instead of suing somebody who is urging you to make a statment?

Taylor, sis... how about try tweeting that the story is false instead of sending your lawyers after everyone who even slightly wrongs you :air: I don't get this girl.
