What’s up with the obsession Americans have with guns?

@FATCAT

https://www.pri.org/stories/2014-08-18/how-many-times-british-cops-fired-guns-all-last-year-3

This is how many times British cops fired guns all of last year: 3

In 2012, 409 people were shot and killed by American police in what were termed justifiable shootings. In that same year, British police officers fired their weapons just once. No one was killed.

2012 in UK (NO GUNS): 0 deaths by police

2012 in USA (WITH GUNS): 409 deaths by police

I know this is not about police officers, but it doesn’t help either. I don’t live in the USA, I’m not over 18 and I HAVE NEVER EVEN SEEN a gun from up close! Did I get killed? Will I kill somebody?

What if an accident happens?

What if a kid accidentally kills someone?

Why should kids learn how to use a gun?

Why should people in general learn how to use a gun if they are not supposed to use them?

I thought kids liked to play. Since when was hunting a game?

For a law to be enforced, there has to be a purpose. So @FATCAT, I ask you what is the reason why toddlers should be able to use guns?

1. The parents will be held responsible, obviously

2. Again, it's the parents responsibility to make sure that their kids are actually ready to hunt with them.

3. It's recreational, for hunting

4. To protect themselves, if they own one, as well as recreational use (like hunting or at the range)
5. Hunting isn't a game, but it is and can be, fun if safe.

6. I don't think toddlers should be able to use guns, but that being said, if I line up a shot for my kid and I want them to be able to shoot at a target (like at a range), it should be up to the discretion of the parents.

The fact that you've never held a gun, or even been around them, speaks volumes. People that hunt recreationally take a pride in gun ownership and the safety that must be undertaken with that responsibility. Maybe it's because you don't live in the US that you don't understand?
