It's because she was there when no one else was. I was so lost and so broken and she took me in and "glued" me back together (and so many monsters as well). I had a very traumatic childhood and Gaga is the closest thing I've ever had to a "mama" and so yeah I guess I clung to her for dear life because she represented what I spent my whole life searching for. In like 06 or 07, someone gave me this demo CD with a young woman with long brown hair on the cover who was my age. I thought it was cool cause I was like 20. I played it so much, the CD warped. Red and Blue was the CD. Her raw talent fronting the SGband is what made me a huge fan. When she got big, she never let go of the elements she started with. Literally everyone hated me except for my best friend. Being in a more conservative town, when Lady Gaga hit the scene, she was constantly trash talked as well. Well, little 9 year old me LOVED poker face to death, and in extension, Lady Gaga. I remember getting into fights with the other kids because they said something mean about gaga. I just loved her because we had something in common-all of the kids at my school hated us. I was around 11 when Born This Way came out- and around that time is when I first started realizing I was crushing on other girls. I was afraid to admit it, because again-conservative town. I loved her message of self acceptance + I loved her advocating against bullying. But then my parents banned me from her, because she was "too weird and sexual". They made me delete poker face from my Itunes and everything. I was devastated honestly-they went so far as to change the radio station if she came on. At the same time the girl who was my first kiss left me for a boy + said I was disgusting (because I was gay). The combination made me repress it all. I was 13 when ARTPOP came out-I was still banned from her, so all I knew about her in that era was from the ARTPOP film that I got as an ad. Around that time is when I started to notice my feelings for girls again + I came out as bisexual to my best friend. I loved seeing gaga come back in the media last year, and I was in love with the metallica performance even though I didn't stan yet. After getting out of an abusive relationship with a guy back in feburary (literally, the same night), I got Perfect Illusion stuck in my head. I decided to listen to it because I needed some cheerful music in my life. Not only has she helped me heal from that relationship but she also made me wake up and realize I was a lesbian. A year ago I was a toxic, hateful person, and now I'm completely different-and I haven't been this happy in a long time. tl;dr - shes always been there when I needed her + shes taught me so many things about self acceptance, confidence, and loving others.
