Supersonic 49,376 Posted November 1, 2017 Share Posted November 1, 2017 A freshman at the University of Hartford, Jazzy Rowe, has received an outpouring of support on social media after alleging that her former roommate systematically worked to poison her during the first few weeks of the school year. “While I’ve been here, I’ve been getting sick,” Rowe said in Facebook video. “It started with throat pain. I thought maybe because it’s colder up here, I’m just catching a cold.” Rowe said that after about a month, the pain “got to the point where I had extreme throat pain that I couldn’t sleep, to the point where I couldn’t speak.” Knowing that things weren’t going to get better on their own, she went to the campus doctor, who gave her antibiotics. While all of this was going on, Rowe says she hadn’t been getting along very well with her roommate. As she began moving her things to her new room, Rowe says that a few Instagram posts made by her now ex-roommate were brought to her attention. Rowe says that these posts explained how her ex-roommate waged a campaign against her that included placing Rowe’s toothbrush in unsanitary areas of the body, spitting in Rowe’s oil, pouring rotten clam dip in Rowe’s beauty products and rubbing used tampons against Rowe’s backpack. Saying "Jamaican Barbie" seems to be a shot at her culture/body type, not specifically her race. Irregardless of whether this abuse was because of a racist asshole or just a general asshole, this definitely ranks among the worst roommate horror stories I've ever heard. While the roommate could also have been taking a shot at her culture, this is very much a racially coded term and definitely is appealing to her race. Though perhaps more specifically to her ethnicity given the "Jamaican" comment. Ethnicity is similar yet distinct from race and includes things such as cultural heritage, traditions, etc that a particular culture has. Though they have overlap and often get used interchangeably, the more technical way of putting it is race-ethnicity. Anyway, this is a despicable event. Humans are such horrible beings.
