Netflix Cancels House Of Cards Over Kevin Spacey Sexual Advances Claims

Netflix’s original flagship series House of Cards will end with its upcoming sixth and final season, EW has confirmed. While no official renewal announcement had previously been made, the series began shooting the final season two weeks ago.

The news comes one day after Star Trek actor Anthony Rapp came forward with allegations that a then-26-year-old Kevin Spacey made sexual advances towards Rapp when he was 14 years old. Late Sunday, the House of Cards star issued a public apology, though he said he didn’t remember the incident. He also used the statement to come out as gay.

Netflix and producer Media Rights Capital released a statement Monday regarding Spacey and the hit series: “Media Rights Capital and Netflix are deeply troubled by last night’s news concerning Kevin Spacey. In response to last night’s revelations, executives from both of our companies arrived in Baltimore this afternoon to meet with our cast and crew to ensure that they continue to feel safe and supported. As previously scheduled, Kevin Spacey is not working on set at this time.”

Yikes...this is kinda overreacting. They could have just killed off his character. What a mess!

Well, his character makes HoC what it is. They could turn the focus on Claire, but let's face it, most viewers (including myself) watch the show with all its problems and flaws because of Spacey's performance.

WHAT

They could've killed Frank Underwood and continue the series. Claire Underwood is the superior character anyway.

Nope, this is RIDICULOUS. Do you guys understand that hundreds of cast and crew are now losing their jobs/residuals/steady income because one guy made a 30-year-old allegation to BUZZFEED?!

Yes, Spacey acted inappropriate if true but he didn't actually DO anything. Spacey needs some kind of therapy, maybe a police report to clear everything -- but the fact that hundreds of people are now gonna be hurt by Rapp's allegation is dumb.

I went to a goth party in Hollywood last week and a drunken older gay man grabbed me HARD and kept pretending to drunkely 'fall' on me -- I shoved him off and moved away. Should I wait 30 years and then ruin his career? Ruin his entire job's workforce? No, he groped me and I got out. Sadly, it happens.

I would never ever ever condone any kind of inappropriate behavior to a minor, but I can't be the only one thinking everyone is overreacting to Rapp's ALLEGATION. Remember, there is literally zero evidence. This isn't how 'justice' should work -- not with others getting hurt in the process.

I have, and Season 5 ended with them directing the attention on Claire Underwood.

So it's not a reach that FU could die next.

Bad Monster Kid

Sad to see such a great show end. Also upsetting to think about how many people will be out of a job.

IMO this is too much too soon. He was in his 20s at the time(still young) and 30 years ago. He's apologized. Now if more came forward and this seems to be a trend with Spacey then I understand cancelling the show.

I like that they're taking this so seriously and have taken immediate action.

You like that hundreds of cast and crew just lost their jobs over a thirty year old allegation? :toofunny:

I mean, kill Spacey off-screen, write a clever way for him out, jesus.

Show lasted way too long as is, and with series like OITNB and Stranger Things, HoC is irrelevant.
