:sweat: I would have thrown that chair at his face and pounce on him like a lion  :gaysia: there would have been some furniture moving in that classroom...

I'm from Canada. I'm so confused, theres a "Pledge"? Did like the school make that up? What are they pledging for?

The Pledge of Allegiance of the United States is an oath usually performed in front of a flag. In schools they say it every morning usually.

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

I know it sounds like some dystopian, North Korea-ish thing but it's been done for a long time lol.

I guess you learn something new everyday.

My stance now is nationalism basically sucks and that’s what I see a lot in America.

I would add to that to say that the intrinsic meaning isn't all that important as is what patriotism has led to throughout history. It's fueled wars, genocides, etc. The whole gambit of atrocities.

No, patriotism doesn't technically mean pride for one thing at the expense of the other, but a lot of people see things in black and white and take it to that logical conclusion.

Patriotism as a cultural policy leads to nationalism as we've seen in the U.S. To that end, I don't see why the technical definition is relevant to the conversation. I say that because when you have a culture that so heavily touts patriotism as a heralding value (as the U.S. does),  of course it's going to lead to bumbling, bristling foreign relations. As a word, patriotism may not be dangerous, but that's looking at it divorced of the context it exists within in most cases. Said context is what makes it a very dangerous.

@Chic

this is kind of what I meant. One feeds off the other.

Oh okay thanks. Sounds strange but okay y’all do you I guess❤️. In my school if somone kicked over a chair like that then they would of most definitely been suspended.
