But I don't need a stats class to know an overgeneralization when I see one. Those principles might work on inanimate objects, but people are too varied and colorful for their opinions on white oppression to be mathematically determined. And that's that about that Well maybe you should - I mean consumer behavior is a thing and companies make billions off these types of polls. They don’t make these polls for shits and giggles. There’s a lot of research, science, and math behind it.

This is how falsehood spreads, by reports like these and it generates panic and fuels misinformation and then moms see them on facebook and believe those percentages and then you never see the end of it.... That's science... there's a 95% chance that the margin of error is 4.7%, which means that there's a 95% chance that it's actually between 50.3% and 59.7%. The chances that this is lower than 50% is just as high as the chance actually being 60%. See it like this: you poll 500 people if they are male or female. The male/female ratio is 1:1 of course (or close to that). So we'd expect 250 males and 250 females. The chances of getting 100 males and 400 females is maybe a one in billion. Science doesn't account for that. The chance that you get 240 to 260 or 260 to 240 is pretty high, but it's not going to be very far away from that. So maybe in this research it's actually 53%, or actually 57%, but it's not going to be 30% or even 40%. The chance of that happening is as big as the chance of you winning the lottery tomorrow. So conclusion is that we should stop doubting polls too much. They're scientific and they show real truths. Let's also remember that more than 60% of white people voted for Trump, so it wouldn't really surprise me if this statistic were indeed truth. This poll proves that a majority of white adults in the US feel they're being discriminated.

What's your point? A White woman brought a case against affirmative action to the Supreme Court And now that women are the majority of those who apply to college, affirmative action will work against them. Similar to Asian applicants who the system also works against. What is YOUR point? My point is that our current system of hiring and admittance is in fact pissing off a lot of white people. I see it all the time, I’m a part of hiring for my first and we pass up on objectively better white candidates for minority candidates just in the grounds of “diversity hires”. That pisses a LOT of political moderates off and they then vote for people like Trump. That’s not good, that’s my point. Can I be more clear?

The way affirmative action in the USA is working, is kind of a mess IMO. Because you are on one hand forced to hire people on the grounds of diversity, while on the other hand there are very little programs that encourage/fund academic excellence of minorities. Especially with the American education system (and the quality of education) being so tight-knit with money and the fact that people of color struggle with money more than white people on average. On the other hand, you have also tons of unemployed and highly-qualified people of color who still can't find a job despite of Affirmative Action being in place. And like the tragic results of studies where scientists sent the same applications (same qualifications i mean) to the same companies, however with two diffrent names (an "ethnic" sounding one, and a "caucasian" sounding one), and only got invited for a further interview with the "caucasian" sounding ones despite the qualifications being the same. This poll proves that a majority of white adults in the US feel they're being discriminated. Okay, this makes sense for some instances but not in this scenario. Think of it like this. What if they conducted a poll about how many US citizens love ARTPOP. If you poll a majority of people on this site, then I'm sure the numbers would be very high. With your logic, we can just expand those numbers to the whole US population because we used "science". The problem with polls like this is that we don't know the people being interviewed, where they came from, what's important to them, etc. Therefore, it is irresponsible to apply the thoughts and opinions of the few to the many. Woolfsmck 2,763
The title, the poll, and the term 'discrimination' are super generalized... This kind of poll an news article only fans the flames of separatism in my opinion. 1. what about the economic level of the pollee's ??? I think that all races and people in the lower income brackets would 'feel' discriminated against.. 2. White People .... which ones???? 3. What kind of discrimination, ? food service, check out lines, job placement, admittance to schools??? You could say that 100 percent of the people in the U.S. don't have enough money.... pffffssssttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. It was first implemented in law to repudiate racial inequalities in America by discriminating against high-performing races and genders in favor of low performing ones. Many parts of affirmative action, like quotas, have been found unconstitutional. I'm not talking about why it was implemented tho, and I'm not even saying I have a problem with it as a white person, because PERSONALLY I don't (even tho it makes me uncomfortable to not hire a more qualified white person, but whatever). A lot of other white people don't feel the way I do, and they're mad that they're more qualified than the minority person that gets the job. I've seen it happen countless times. My last job even told one of my coworkers that she didn't get the promotion she wanted even tho she was more qualified for the position because they went with a diversity hire... That pisses a lot of people off and we end up with Trump in office which I tend to think is worse of the country/world
