The Neue Zürcher Zeitung wrote about Lady Gaga, the role of gender in the pop business and the evolution of the pop scene:

https://www.nzz.ch/feuilleton/auf-und-ab-mit-lady-gaga-ld.1320311

Here are the basic statements:

- Lady Gaga's best times are over

- 10 years ago she was world-famous...

- .....more popular than Pink, Kylie Minogue and Madonna....

- ....now she is in the shadows of younger artists

- with Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Ariana Granda, Taylor Swift, Adele, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato & co: the Pop Scene has become FEMALE

- the Pop scene has become female not because of the power of women, it is female because being a pop star is now considered to be a feminine activity, a task only for women. Being a singer is a classical, typical woman's role.

- behind the stage, it is still (older) men who decide about everything

- Pop stars lie when they justifiy their success with "female emancipatory progress"; their succes is a result of women being in the role of a "presentation figure"

- Madonna and Lady Gaga share many similarities

- Lady Gaga started to experience a popularity decline since ARTPOP era and has since then become less relevant

- Even though, Lady Gaga has amazing singing skills, the public in general is focusing more on her appearance rather than her vocal skills

- Nowadays in pop music, stand-out, non-typical voice characteristics are being electronically filtered out, songs are so heavily edited that the difference between artists is decrasing. The majority of artists is required to fulfill the criteria of  "the vocal standard" .

- Madonna and Lady Gaga chose their own producents, were engaged in deciding the direction of their own music: now the newer, younger stars only care about success, what is a trend right now, and they do whatever successful producents and componists tell them to do.

- The newer, younger stars are manufactured by "hit factories": their sounds are all replacable, they have given roles.

- Even though, they are being called ARTists (KÜNSTler), these famous stars are actually neither original nor do they have their own unique style, they just follow trends.

- Pop music sounds the same

- Stars have scandals

- the news ideals of pop music are "fitness" and "self-discipline"

- a pop singer is now a missionary of the "'hedonism' and 'achievement/performance', as well as 'sensuality' have to be put into accordance"-cult

- Lady Gaga sings better than Madonna

- Lady Gaga is too old now and needs to be exchanged in future ("At a certain age, stars need to be replaced". Lady Gaga is too old for the pop scene; she was singing well with Tony Bennett, it is suggested for Lady Gaga to leave the pop scene and become active in the "Swing scene", her entertainment is "timeless" )

What do you think about it?

LEt me go find the bitch that wrote this and shank them. I'm in zurich and coming for this ass. "Lady gaga is too old now and needs to be exchanged" The ass who wrote this obviously needs to be exchanged. I hate journalism. And ofc my flop country would put gaga in a bad light again. This just made me angry...

I guess when Gaga achieves world dominance again, we can end this publisher  :poot:

Edit: Gaga should buy the publisher :gaycat:

I actually agree with almost everything, except that "Lady Gaga is over, old and needs to be exchanged". :selena: Pop music is mostly shaped by women because males who become pop mostly come from urban or R&B. I love that the article understood that Gaga drove her artistry, not to be a money-making machine.

And yes, Lady Gaga sings better than Madonna. Pop music right now sounds the same.

Except for the party where Lady Gaga needs to be exchanged, i see a lot of truth, and there is nothing wrong about it. As long as i get new music, i couldn't care less if she is world famous or not.

Daenerys

These younger artists aren’t even “icon” worthy or legendary. Their success is only limited to their weak vocals and generic music. Until the next Lady Gaga comes, there will only be true queens of pop aka Britney, Madonna, Gaga. Until one of these newer artists can impress me as much as them, they can keep their music away from me.

Daenerys of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, The Unburnt, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Queen of Meereen

Literally this. None of the new artists are even a little close to as interesting, or talented as Gaga and Madonna are
