Hey Monsters!

I got lost on youtube today and I came across this youtube channel. I saw this video and it's supposed to be the official instrumental of Onion Girl. It says that Zedd used it for another song (Addicted To A Memory) since Gaga didn't put it in ARTPOP.

I'll admit that it sounds a bit ARTPOPish but I don't know... Why would he make another song with the same instrumental? After all it was Gaga's song or idk what happened. Nevertheless it sounds really good :hor:

Would you have liked it as instrumental for Onion Girl?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but even some ARTPOP instrumentals were "songs" before they were touched by Gaga. Zedd didn't use the instrumental, so why not put it to good use?

a lot of the act 2 stuff would have been kept to be sold by the label to actually make use of the music made

however, this onion girl rumour came out of an email that could have easily been faked so i’d be cautious

Onion Girl/Addicted to a Memory's instrumental wasn't Gaga's, it was Zedd's.

Same thing goes for Aura actually. It's originally by that Mushrooms group, but Gaga liked it when Zedd played it for her or something so she took it and added her lyrics to it.

I believe the same thing happened with Perfect Illusion? Isn't it Kevin Parker's? :oprah:

It's funny cuz I often see threads talking **** about other artists (besides Gaga ofc) sampling music or not producing their own work when Gaga clearly does it.

It's completely fine too imo. I think it's cool to adapt and collaborate with other artists.

She collaborates with the producers. Zedd and Gaga reworked that Aura demo, and with Perfect Illusion Kevin had the demo and they progressively added lyrics until they sounded good.  Also a song doesn't contain only the instrumental, I don't see a problem in using different instrumentals for melodies cause she still has a artistic involvement in the track. For Britney and Rihanna people pass already written and produced songs to them.

In entire's Gaga discography she is credited as the main songwriter on every song except Bad Romance, Perfect illusion and Come To Mama.

I know that's what I said :poot:

Also, Britney and Rihanna were artistically involved in some of their albums I believe (Blackout and Anti) but I don't keep up with them so I'm not too sure.

In the case of Aura though it didn't change too much. It was just Zedd's rehash of the second half (and rearrangement to accommodate a typical song structure) while Gaga just added her lyrics on top :oprah: so I don't necessarily see the artistic involvement there.

You're right about the Onion Girl part, which is why Gaga isn't credited as a writer on the song.

Perfect Illusion was made with her/for her and is fully her ownership though.

Rihanna co-written some of her tracks (esp. on Anti, but she is like the last writer from 5-6 other :poot:) and Britney did the same with some Glory tracks and for In The Zone she is pretty much the main writer for every song I believe.

With Aura Gaga only had the instrumental, she along with Zedd created the lyrics, the chord progression and the melody (which I think it's more important than the instrumental itself). I do see Gaga very involved in her music.
