Not sure why you're so upset :oprah:  As a PhD student in linguistics I definitely have an opinion on this kind of thing and I have the ability to back it up.

tl;dr prescriptivism (having a standard grammar of English that is correct and any other variety is objectively wrong) is stupid, descriptivism (there is no one variety of English better than any other and grammar is a thing which has and always will change over time, so it is better to simply describe what exists rather than imposing one person's view on others on how language should be used) rocks.

i'm more bothered by her singing "et je veux ton revenge" which is not a word in french. it's "ta revanche" and the studio version does sound like that but she says the former in her live performances.

chaeri pls

This grammar mistake always bothers me when listening to Bad Romance. However, the lyric that bothers me the most in terms of a grammatical error is the following line from Ariana’s song Break Free:

“...now that I’ve become who I really are...”

It makes it unlistenable :toofunny:

a Song is a POEM, and written by a POET and they have this so called "POETIC LICENSE"

As a general rule, poetry has a carefully controlled verbal structure. The metre of the poem, the pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables, and the sounds and modulations of the words themselves all affect the subtle meanings and feelings that the poet may be trying to convey or evoke. Poets may distort normal prose patterns for the sake of form and therefore assume poetic license; it is solely a matter of aesthetic judgment and sensibility as to whether the alterations enhance or detract from the total effect of the poem

that's another example of "Poetic License"..

I only wanna die alive
Never by the hands of a broken heart
Don't wanna hear you lie tonight
Now that I've become who I really are

the composer wanted that rhyme for the end of 2nd and 4th line.. he/she have that freedom as the composer.

Ok. Shouldn't it be "you and I could write a bad romance" not "you and me..." :selena: Was singing to Bad Romance the other day and it kinda hit me...

""Consider the following sentence: You and I should have lunch.

Is the correct form of this sentence You and I ... or You and me ...? This is a common source of confusion in English.

Fortunately, there's an easy way to decide whether to use I or me in such sentences. All you have to do is drop the word you then try the sentence with I and me one at a time. For example:

I should have lunch.

Me should have lunch.

Clearly the preferred form in this case is I; thus, the original sentence was correct to use you and I.""

If we apply that to the lyric...

You could have a bad romance :hor:

Me could have a bad romance

So technically it should be You and I could write a bad romance. It doesn't sound right, but grammatically speaking it is. Maybe that's why she released You and I as a single. To cover up the mistake :neyde:

Also, is it "right" or "write" a bad romance?

Enigma popstar she is. :staymad:

you're getting too far sis :toofunny:

Creative writing breaks a lot of grammar rules. Go open one of your fav novels and see how many sentences start with "And".

It's poetry. It's flow is more important than grammar.

I googled examples and.. :toofunny:

Bringing things a little more up to date, Lady Gaga makes the same error in the song ‘You and I’, when she sings:

Oh, yeah, I’d rather die
Without you and I

Gaga, a serial offender, is guilty of the reverse error in the song ‘Bad Romance’, with this line:

You and me could write a bad romance.

Me could write a bad romance? If only she could pay as much attention to her pronouns as she does to her outfits…

:bye: shady bitch..

that is the whole point of "Poetic License".. they can defy grammar in order to have the perfect flow for stressing, intonation, modulation, metre and rhyme..

imagine

Oh, yeah, I’d rather die
Without you and me

where is the rhyme for die and me??? where???
