I mean, did anyone lie about these lifestyles? 17 hours ago, lego said: Oh, come off it. You've really become the word police lately, haven't you? And about that article - even I don't really trust Everyday Feminism, and I'm a feminist. Their article, while it makes some good points and fairly points out that white criminals have had a negative light shone on them, they are over-exaggerating the extent of how how whites are treated. From what I've seen, when a white person commits a crime and there is lots of proof of them being a criminal, the media does everything in their power to paint them as such, printing photos of them posing looking tough and suchlike. Conservative outlets especially, really go to town on this idea, regardless of the stereotype of them upholding white privilege. Let's just think back to the Columbine shootings. The media went right after Marilyn Manson (a band consisting of white males) for allegedly inspiring these boys to do what they did and it later turned out that they had no reason for accusing them because there was no evidence that the boys even listened to their music. Eminem, a white rapper, was also spearheaded by the media around the same time for similar incidents, so much so, that Manson and Eminem even did an onstage duet to point out the absurdity of the claims and how much of an unnecessary witch hunt it was. I also read about a case in Arkansas where 2 young boys were murdered and left in a ditch with what appeared to be strange symbols all over their bodies. The locals suspected that these looked like satanic symbols, put two and two together and immediately accused the only 2 goths in the small town of doing the crime. Both these white boys were pulled up in court, where everyone was against them and the verdict was Death Row, they didn't even think for a minute they could be innocent. Both these boys spent years in jail and eventually got saved by a kind-hearted petition that celebrities jumped on to encourage police to re-open the case. It turned out that the police didn't even carry out forensic checks to determine if the accused fingerprints or DNA were on the victims, they just singled them out because of how they dressed. There was no evidence that they were even in the area that night and the 'satanic' markings found on the bodies were determined to have been left by wild animals. They got acquitted and saved from lethal injection, but only after about 16 years behind bars or thereabouts. So, as you can see, there's other reasons why white people might demonise others, even other white people. Goths used to be the poster child for degeneracy by white America back in the day. In my experience, if it's not race that you get singled out for, it'll be something else - gender, religion, economic status, how you dress, the type of music you listen to, etc. Anything that makes you different from "everyone else." And I'm not even going to start on the rest of your post. I didn't know that because I usually don't click on linked images for online safety reasons. What Twitter's capabilities are is also something that I've never looked into, so there's no need to make out like I'm stupid. When I did follow it, I still don't know the full story as it doesn't mention names. And if they were guilty for the crime in question, then, they were guilty. Is it wrong to frame guilty people as guilty now? I'm sure if the shooter hadn't killed himself, he'd have the same kind of headlines made about him when he was led away by police. Smoking and rapping may not be a criminal lifestyle, but it was the specifics of these things that were problematic. The headline doesn't do it justice (most headlines don't, they're just shock value and clickbait to get you reading). The article, however, went into detail - shortly before he was killed, he had stolen a box of cigars at a convenience store, pushing the clerk into a display case as he did so. So, this was how his smoking became criminal. He also drank and took drugs. He had made rap lyrics that were deemed "contemplative and vulgar" including lines like "my favourite part is when the bodies hit the ground." That kind of thing suggests a desire for criminal behaviour and lines like that are demonised in any genre by anyone. He'd also got into a physical fight with a neighbour. He didn't do well at school. The article even brought up what's hailed as the classic "white person excuse" of the fact he liked violent video games. Trust me, if he was white, exactly the same things would be brought up. I've seen it happen before. Hell, there was a white tv celebrity here called Chris Fountain who posted a video online of him singing an original rap with the line: "I'd rape a bitch on her birthday." It resulted in him getting fired from the tv show that he was currently filming and got him omitted from returning to a reality show (on which he won second place) for the last season special. The comments sections of news sites reporting on it were demanding he got fired. He couldn't get any work afterwards and kept a low profile and he's doing his first tv (supporting) role for the first time in 5 years next year. See, white people hate it when white people sing "harmless raps" as well! 31 minutes ago, uo111 said: You can condense pretty much everything you say into #alllivesmatter and #poorwhitepeople. I never said that minorities are not treated badly for their race. They are. But some people make out like race is the only reason anyone could possibly be mean to you or demonise you. That was ironically, the point I was making, yes, these things can happen at the same time! There's a whole host of ways that you can be demonised, to say that race is the only one and the most important one is so simplistic and fails to highlight other legitimate ways of being discriminated against. All discrimination is bad, we need to stop ranking it. It's a complete myth that white people help out other white people because they're white. In reality, all races put down other people who aren't exactly like them, even if it's their own people. If it's not race, it's something else. We've got to find some reason to pick on someone. That's been the story of my life. So, when minorities have tried to frame any kind of discrimination as something that just happens to them, pardon me if I feel the need to point out the inaccuracy of that.
