Gaga + Collabs: Why She Avoids Them

After watching the documentary, and going back on most of her collaborations, I kinda noticed Gaga only collaborates with her peers or generally those who are established in the industry. She has never collaborated with whoever was hot at the moment with a few exceptions (i.e., Mark Ronson from Uptown Funk but she took him as executive producer for a different song). I guess aside from the fact that she wants to create her own music and that she wants her input to be valued, she is also trying to avoid another similarity with Madonna, who collaborates with younger artists who are usually at the top of the game? What do you guys think?

let's not forget it took madonna 30 years of her career to actually start collaborating with someone :saladga: (besides brit & that other guy whose name i cant remember), so that comparison makes no sense :selena:

i'm sure it all depends on the artistic vision of gaga & how she connects with someone if she wants to collaborate with them. and it can clearly be seen flo & gags have wonderful connection.

i know but it still holds. Flo is a peer, not a hot younger trendsetter

I mean you could also notice that the only people she collabs with are the people who are actually around her. She said so multiple times that she hates "collabing" as in "send me your verse per e-mail, my producer will try to make it work somehow".

Judging from the fun she an Florence had while collabing, it does make sense. They're like genuinely vibing and enjoying themselves. Just sending someone the sh*t you've done kinda pulls you out of the moment, takes out all the fun and passion and makes you super analytical and cold about what you have created. Not to mention it's frustrating when people can't get it right on their own and you basically have to cancel a collab because everything that got sent to you was trash.

maybe that is because hot younger trendesetters have next to no integrity & musicality in them and are basically products of labels, made for mass consumption.

I doubt that young hot trendsetters have the time and money to take off one week out of their schedule to collab with Lady Gaga. When you are trying to establish yourself you're basically a money-making machine and try to grab quick checks anywhere you go in case you might be just a fluke and might not be able to establish yourself. I feel like that's why Gaga just naturally prefers to collab with her peers and older legends. They can allow themselves to be in the moment. They're not paranoid about missing the next paycheck and not being able to pay rent despite having a Top 10 hit.

Excuse me but no, Mark is in the industry longer than Gaga he has produced for Macy Gray, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Lilly Allen, Christina Aguilera, Robbie Williams, Bruno Mars (even before Uptown Funk) and most importantly for Adele and Amy Winehouse - he won ROTY at Grammys for Rehab and was nominated for AOTY and won Pop Vocal album and Producer of the Year, Non-Classical for Back to Black. He is far from what's hot right now and is very well established.

First of all, I know all this. I only put that out because I feel like someone is ready to say that she jumped on Mark Ronson after Uptown Funk blew up

That's not even true, they met even before she blew up and Gaga always wanted to work with him and the reason she work with him for Joanne is Amy's record and not Uptown Funk. She wanted that analog acoustic sound that is far from Uptown Funk.

and again I know that. I was putting that up for people who think otherwise because I've seen many detractors use that argument whenever we say Gaga doesn't chase trends.

Who said that?

That's just stupid...But for me I have to say I think Gaga collaborates with people she respects and she doesn't do it for trends, she does it for herself.
