Australia and The Plebiscite

So, In case you didn't know, Australia is currently undergoing a plebisite which is a nationwide servay to see if we should vote on same sex marriage. 

This process has seen many people come togeether to vote yes and take the next step forward in making the change in law. However, The vote is not a guarentee that we will get a vote on changing the law, at the moment the vote is just to see if Australians want to vote, it's stupid and a waste of time and money. The tension in Australia right now is quite present as the two parties split into the Yes campaign and the No campaign.

The Yes campaign has been full of support from celebrities, general public and even conservatives urging people to vote and posting their ballot down bellow. See some of those examples here:

And they have had a really good advert running on tv and sending text messages encouraging people to Vote Yes (I would post the video but I can't find it sorry )

The No campaign have been trying hard to push their agenda and it's quite funny to watch. "School told me my son could wear a dress next year"...... Good

Im quite over this whole thing already, Australia is probably one of the most progressive countries in the world and we are still so backwards on this topic because the politicians that sit in parlament have rods shoved so far up their ass that they can't see we as a public just want the law to change. Fly that flag ladies and let me know what you think about this mess down bellow.

I am all about yes, in fact my family have voted yes. What I don't agree with is how the Yes Campaign are taking things way too far.  I don't agree with Yes campaign's promotion. They've started texting random numbers, urging them to vote "yes", a very controversial move the campaign is making. They are also abusing people who are voting against, and I agree no voters are asses, but whoever is voting no is literally being verbally and physically assaulted. The yes campaigners were rioting in front of a church, blocking people from entering as they think religion is stupid and they want to end something that has been taking place for centuries. Also a worker at a popular Australian supermarket 'Woolworths' openly stated he was voting no, the yes campaigners are currently protesting to take down Woolworths completely from one stupid closed-minded worker, when the actual owner has openly been yes the whole time. 

We need to have marriage equality, but we are getting nowhere by making these actions. All I say to any of those yes campaigners is to let people have their vote, yes or no, as it doesn't affect them. If we really want to get our message across, we need to show the true meaning of inclusivity and equality rather than bashing those who perhaps know less about the debate.

every thread I've seen you comment on you're always complaining. Like girl chillax, who cares if there have been previous threads about this, we should be showing support to those on here who perhaps are making these threads bc they're worried and need support. I don't have a problem at all, its just your complaint comments are kinda just becoming a pattern

Australia isn’t one of the most progressive countries, infact it’s the opposite. I’ve lived here for 5 years, originally from the UK and so many Australians are racist. The fact indigenous people aren’t recognised in the constitution is disgusting and I hope this is sorted soon. I love this country but it’s far from progressive.

I honestly think the odds are stacked against us. If "yes" pulls through and the law is changed, great. But the people who are against SSM are far more likely to vote no than people who don't really care about it enough to vote either way. Even if the majority do vote yes, there is no guarantee that Turnbull will even accept it and actually change the law. 

And if majority vote no, we can say goodbye to any change of marriage equality for a long time, unless labour gets voted in and they change in in parliament themselves. 

It's just a huge waste of money. There's no way to check that our vote has even been counted! Australia Post is ****, how do I know that my vote actually made in to Canberra? 

And I have to disagree that Australia is one of the most progressive countries. Sure, we have some good policies here etc but the way we treat minorities in this country is terrible and far from progressive.
