I work in the medical field and PTSD dogs are more common than you think. Considering PTSD is a form of anxiety, if the individual is triggered by any sort of environmental stimulus, then it can cause a severe anxiety attack or even panic attack. For example, i know of someone's grandfather who use to have a legit panic attack after hearing loud noises for years after being home after WW2. So having a service dog is not unheard of for these disorders.

What does the service dog do if the owner has some kind of panic attack? Hold them down?

Depends on what the panic attack is a response to. For example, some people with PTSD deal with hallucinations while others don't respond well to loud noises like i said. In both of those situations, the dog is there for comfort and support (you should not hold someone down while they are having a panic attack btw). they provide calming effects and also help with elderly patients with medication and stuff like that. Ive seen dogs trained to go and retrieved medication bottles at specific times of the day for example. Dogs also maintain a calm demeanor, allowing the person suffering from PTSD to have a constant sense of clam (they see the dog is calm, which may help them calm down if that makes sense) Many dogs are also trained to fetch help if they are alone and have a prolonged episode.

Not all disabilities are visible. For example you can't tell if someone has a life threatening allergy to peanuts just by looking at them. It's nothing short of amazing the things that service dogs can be trained to do and yes PTSD service dogs are just as legitamate as a guide dog or a seizure alert dog. This lady needs to calm the hell down.

It is amazing, I’ve seen dogs that can be trained to sense glucose levels of the blood! If it stop low or too high they know it’s amazing
