Are these police officers getting punished for these crimes? Just because their police doesn't mean theyre acting like police  poor guy this is upsetting, hopefully he will get justice.

Deaf people are at a higher risk than hearing people when they interact with the police. Some officers don't have the patient to communicate with them (signing, writing, etc), and other assume they're being ignored when they're not.  

One of the reasons I refuse to live without hearing aids. As much as I would love to, it's easier to fit in to the hearing world than expecting hot-tempered people to relate.

Police in the US tend to use their weapons too easily. Nothing new but seriously... shooting should be like the last thing you should do.

But why was he coming towards the police with a lead pipe?  It's extremely unfortunate that they went straight to shooting him, but I mean, why the hell would you come at the police with a weapon..?

As the incident unfolded, neighbor Julio Rayos stood about 25 to 30 feet away with his wife and daughter. They were yelling at the officers not to shoot Sanchez and that he was deaf, Rayos told NewsOK Tuesday.

Sanchez also had developmental disabilities and was nonverbal, so he communicated mostly with his hands, Rayos said.

“The guy does movements. He don’t speak, he don’t hear, so mainly it’s hand movements that he does. That’s how we communicated with him,” Rayos said. “I believe he was frustrated, trying to tell them what was going on.”

At one point Sanchez struck the back of his truck. Rayos believes Sanchez was trying to communicate in the midst of the hectic scene. That’s when Rayos knew something was about to happen. The officers already had their weapons drawn, he said.

Both officers told Sanchez to drop his weapon, Matthews said. But he continued toward them, he said, until they used the firearm and taser at the same time.

Neighbor Jolie Guebara lives two houses down from the scene and heard five or six gunshots before she looked outside and saw the police, she told the Associated Press.

Whenever she and her husband were outside, Sanchez would sometimes stop by and write notes to communicate with them.

“He always had a stick that he would walk around with, because there’s a lot of stray dogs,” Guebara told the AP.

I agree that holding a metal pipe might look odd at first, but why fire both the taser and gun at the same time? Taser if you must, then investigate, especially if you're being told that the person is deaf.

Completly agree, just found it strange that he would-hold a weapon like object when walking towards police who obviously are trying to stop you.. But ya, like I said, ridiculous to shoot the man over that.

Did you skip over the part where it's stated that he had developmental disablilities
