Nevertheless, I don't agree that the "own laws by the comunidades autónomas" is on the same level as "Catalonia as part of Spain / independent". BUT, I do get the comparison you're making. Catalans don't vote for efficiency but to ensure the permanence of their culture. Back when I was a kid the independantists were a few people arguing how Madrid was economically bleeding the region. The average catalan didn't care. Everything exploded in 2010 when Madrid broke its promises about a new statute of autonomy, decided to not recognize Catalonia as a nation anymore and started to break off dialogue with the region. Would you want to be led and forced to do things by someone who doesn't listen to you ? And about the size of the region it's bigger than Belgium and it's more crowded than countries like Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, Norway or Serbia. I'm catalan myself and my answer is YES. At first I didn't care if it was yes or no, but why would I want to live in a country that sh*ts on democracy? We are literally sleeping in schools today so spanish police can't close them and we are able to vote tomorrow. Just think about it, not letting people vote... Welcome to the 21rst century. There are videos of spanish people screaming at the police ''go get them'' (us, the catalans) when they were entering Catalonia to try to stop the referendum, and the police was smiling and laughing. Excuse me I'm not an animal that you need to hunt, I'll have my opinion and I'll vote because we can't be living in a non existent democracy. And by saying '' go get them'' they are already saying that we are not them. The spanish media says only bullsh*t, like ''they bully you if you dont want to be independent'' or ''They brainwash kids''. Excuse me no, I have a lot of friends who want to vote NO, but they want to vote and that's the thing. Since you are voting yes, have you ever thought of maybe Catalonia becoming like Scotland? Where it's the same kingdom but different country? Because it seems becoming a completely independent state could be very difficult down the line and especially if the Spanish government retaliates. I only know that if there's no referendum tomorrow and Catalonia stays in Spain, things will never be the same. People are angry and won't stop fighting. Students only went to classes like 2 days this week, all the other days we were on manifestations and stuff. Since the 20th of september we go out to the streets at 10pm and make noise with cooking pots, metals and stuff in sign of protest... If we cant vote tomorrow I can't imagine what will happen next... Catalonia and Scotland have parliaments, local rules, etc yet they're still under someone's authority. As some of you already said we’ve been fighting for this referendum for almost 6 years now and the spanish government has NEVER listened to us. It’s really sad to see that even though we live in a “democratic” country they won’t allow us to vote. That’s why there have been so many protests these days; we are frustated. Tonight I have slept in my voting centre so they don’t close it down and I’m really tired but excited at the same time. I just hope everyone in Catalonia has the chance to vote today. If they would let everyone vote in peace, the results would be No, because the majority want to remain in spain. But they are lowkey “invading” the voting stations People who wanted to vote No, will stay in their homes and wont vote.. while the angry protesters are sleeping in the voting stations, so they can vote Yes.
