A bold opinion about Joanne

I'm not sure. I really hope it gets a nod. I do feel Ed, Lorde and Kendrick are locked already, and Melodrama and Divide is pretty amazing albums imo. Haven't listened to DNA yet. But I would be happy if Lorde would win this with Joanne still nominated.

Given what came out this year, I would be truly shocked if she didn't get an AOTY nomination.  Joanne sold well, spawned a well known song, received middling to good reviews, and had significant cultural impact due to the Super Bowl, the tour, and the doc.  It would be a slap in the face if it wasn't nominated.  As to whether it will win...a young gay can dream

I have mixed feelings about this. I actually don't think Joanne will get a nod because there are a lot of better received albums this year.

I'm actually rooting for Chris Stapleton, Father John Misty and LCD Soundsystem, but I'm promoting Joanne mainly because Divide, a cheesy uncreative album, doesn't deserve an AOTY nomination. My dream list would be Damn, From a Room Vol. 1, Pure Comedy, Joanne, and American Dream. Starboy had too many fillers for me because it is very long, and 24K Magic has a very nonsensical fame and money concept.

Chances of getting in imo:

100%: Divide (Ed Sheeran) and Damn (Kendrick Lamar)

80%: 24K Magic (Bruno Mars)

50%: Melodrama (Lorde) and Starboy (The Weeknd)

40%: Joanne (Lady Gaga), Hardwired to Self-Destruct (Metalicca), Pure Comedy (Father John Misty), Concrete And Gold (Foo Fighters), From A Room Vol. 1 (Chris Stapleton) and The Weight of These Wings (Miranda Lambert)

20%: Rainbow (Kesha), 4:44 (Jay-Z) and American Teen (Khalid)

0,1%: Witness (Katy Perry)

I think this is the more likely chances that we are getting in, except that I would also put Starboy in 40% because it got two hit singles and left. I would also include LCD Soundsystem because the Grammys love to nominate indie acts.

I love Joanne so much. I don't understand why people don't like it. The only thing that I didn't like about the era was the fact that Diamond Heart wasn't the lead single.

I think it is a great AOTY contender as well, I really hope she wins a Grammy this time.

Diamond Heart is a fan favorite but definitely not a good choice for a single.

Sadly many if not most fans aren't objective of what their favorite musicians put out.

Joanne is a great album but single wise not many could have been singles. A-YO and Wayne could have but honestly the rest just would have never had a chance to become successful singles. Now obviously Gaga can choose to pick whatever song she wants to put out as a single and the fans can have their favorite songs hoping they'd become singles but the reality is the she chose to release The Cure (though it was never promoted as a single) rather than put out another song from the album as a single. 😘

Serious question- is Divide really a big contender for an AOTY nomination? I'm asking this purely because I feel like it's a genuinely underwhelming (... leaning to "kind of actually bad") album. If its basis is for its commercial success, then I can't argue against that.

FJM always gets snubbed though so I wouldn't count on it. :selena:

I tbh think this album is the most Grammy-worthy of them all as a whole. Yes Bad Romance was a masterpiece, and Edge of Glory, BTW are beautiful, but this is the only album I can get through the entirety of it and not feel exhausted. It's so rich with sincerity.

If Melodrama is not nominated for AOTY, the Grammys are officially cancelled (although they were already cancelled when 25 won AOTY over Lemonade tbh).

is a strong Album of the Year contender.

I'm not saying it will win, but at this point I cannot imagine 2018's Album of the Year nominations being announced without Joanne on the list.

I think these albums are not getting a nomination:

1. Witness - Katy Perry (received mixed reviews, ever since Bon Appetit and Swish Swish, Katy has been receiving a lot negative backlash, her attempts at building a comedic image by hosting at the VMAs doesn't help either, tour isn't selling out, Witness is a strong decline from Prism and Teenage Dream)

2. Melodrama - Lorde (acclaimed but it's literally not promoted ever since Green Light ended, I'm being honest the impact is really limited with this album)

3. Rainbow - Kesha (I haven't heard it in full but like Melodrama, although it's acclaimed I can't imagine it getting a nomination, the album barely has impact, the singles are only existent among pop fans, also Kesha is never praised for her vocals, the album is acclaimed because of its production, her vocals are still somehow flawed imo)

I think these albums are competing alongside Joanne:

With Joanne, we have 4 nominations as of yet. There's room for one more, and they say the Grammys usually recognise one more album that is not as commercially successful as the mainstream ones, so we leave room for that. Sometimes the Grammys nominate SIX albums.

The other contender is Bruno Mars's 24k Magic. Both Joanne and 24k Magic received positive reviews from critics but 24k Magic is short af it's almost like an EP.

Other reasons I think Joanne is getting a nomination:

1. I personally think Joanne has more impact than 24k Magic, I could be biased because obviously I receive Joanne news more frequently than I do 24k Magic. I'd like to hear your opinion on this. Gaga has been receiving a lot of praise from promoting this album, whether it's Coachella or the Joanne World Tour or the Superbowl or the documentary.

2. Lady Gaga is the only A-list female musician this year that is working. If the Grammys would want to recognise one female talent next year, the choice is no doubt Lady Gaga.

3. She performed at the biggest event this year, and gave a universally acclaimed halftime performance that became the most watched musical event in history that is also a 6-time Emmy-nominated program.

4. Five Foot Two is being released and is thus far acclaimed by critics and that documentary focuses on: guess what? JOANNE.

I like your opinion up until what you think would be nominated alongside Joanne. Those albums, and artists, are generic, boring and totally lame. Joanne should clearly win if those are in the running alongside her. (Kendrick, that other guy and Ed rest on their laurels making what they know will sell (just like Katy, Rihanna, Beyonce, etc), what has worked for them before, nothing new from any of them, Joanne was a clear departure from what Gaga has done before and is another reinvention and change in direction.) Gaga should definitely win.

Overrated. Lorde can keep it.

Sis I'm sorry but Melodrama >>>>>>>>>> Joanne.

Still think Joanne is a great album, but Melodrama truly is something else. Pretty sure it can speak to anyone who's ever been in a relationship.

Lord Temptation

Hmmm...:saladga: My heart tells me one thing but my mind tells me something else :cryga:

For all of the above reasons (and a million more) I think she'll get the AOTY nomination...BUT... I don't think she has one good one to win :excuseu:

For Million Reasons on the other hand, she has a great chance of winning SOTY. It's her comeback single, it's old school (and the Grammys are very old school) and in years to come it'll be seen as her signature song  :firega:

Rock on Grammy Queen of country :sis:ballads
