Seriously this, my principal last Friday told the whole school that they had the right to sit if they chose and he'd personally defend them.

Indoctrination at its finest 

The "One nation under God" part was added in the 50's to show a strong Christian opposition to the Communists but I'm not sure about the rest of the pledge's history.

Yup. I remember discovering my sexuality around the time I stopped reciting the pledge. I'd think "liberty and justice for all?  But...people like me aren't protected from discrimination, we can't get married, we can't adopt, we can't give blood, what kind of justice is that?" and it's like that for a ton of people here.

And this illustrates why I personally don't stand for the pledge. That line about liberty and justice makes me sick. America is filled with injustice and they're not just isolated incidents. There's systematic oppression in America that almost half the population and the current president and congress support. That's not liberty and justice for all. That's not even trying to have it. It's a filthy lie to brainwash us into being greatful for what we have so we don't ask for more. It's too brainwash us into not criticizing America because when u do, people are quick to scream at u.

And the people usually saying that are the people who have what they call "justice" for themselves. 

Usually they tell you minorities need to get over it and that they need to be grateful for not being as opressed as before

The U.S. brand of patriotism is nationalism. It is creepy that kids are supposed to stand and recite the pledge every day. I haven't done it in years and I still remember it 

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Every kid standing in class with their hands over their hearts, looking at the flag that hangs in every classroom, and reciting this pledge in a monotone and bored voice. I stopped doing it in middle school. Whenever a teacher had an issue, I'd tell them 1) it's not a requirement 2) I don't believe in a god and 3) my allegiance is to the world, not just our country.

I remember doing it during bush presidency and stopped when obama was in office.what a real difference in how these two diff terms acted
