I understand that the world can be a mess sometimes, but please don't forget that there is also good all around the world that you don't see just because it doesn't always make the headlines.

On another note i'm always surprised/weird out at how the USA seem to be a bit obsessed with their country. Like, there's USA flags everywhere, you need to recitate the pledge sometimes during the week at school, etc

There's a hyper-nationalism culture here. Specifically, it's very prevalent amongst conservatives.

When I was in school we did the US pledge and the Texas pledge.

Is the child one of Jehovah's Witnesses? Most of the time that's the cases you hear of children who don't salute the flag. There have been cases that have gone to the supreme court over this....

The U.S. brand of patriotism is nationalism. It is creepy that kids are supposed to stand and recite the pledge every day. I haven't done it in years and I still remember it 

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Every kid standing in class with their hands over their hearts, looking at the flag that hangs in every classroom, and reciting this pledge in a monotone and bored voice. I stopped doing it in middle school. Whenever a teacher had an issue, I'd tell them 1) it's not a requirement 2) I don't believe in a god and 3) my allegiance is to the world, not just our country.

Also very ironic how the last 5 words of the pledge are a straight up lie. For the majority of this country's nation it hasn't been the case and even though we've progressed it isn't a complete reality.

Yep I recited the pledge every morning in elementary school I think it was no longer done in middle school or high school or maybe i just forgot

I remember just standing but not saying anything because I didn't know about laws that allow you to not do it. I did know it was historically recent. I dunno, it's just very... North Korea-like to me.
