I must ask, do you personally believe homosexuality is wrong or do you feel you have to believe it because of your religion?

This is a very tough question to answer and i myself am not very certain about the way i feel about homosexuality. But what I can say is that I believe that there is nothing wrong about having a sexual attraction towards people of the same sex as you. You cannot control the feelings inside your heart. It just comes naturally to you. That's why Islam doesn't "punish" you for being gay because you cannot control your sexuality.

well you are talking about strict religious people while your comment was at first directed to the person who started this conversation and u dont even know if he/she is 100% religious to indirectly tell him/her what she/he is doing here liking gaga... that's where my argument takes place!!

  Reveal hidden contents

all that aside,

so to you every religious person is isolated from any form of social contact, 24/24 praying and waiting to die?

As i remember  from my education in highschool religion has some fixed rules and some evolving rules, but that's another subject that needs its own topic!

i get your idea, you are talking about really strict religious people, what you're saying about them is true indeed...but do you see that often in real life?  you are  stricter than religion  i understood from your text that people should be 100% religious or 0% !

Well, the way I look at it is, you shouldn't be identifying with a religion if it's doesn't gel with how you live your life. I think the idea of being leniently religious is somewhat of an oxymoron. You either follow a religion to the letter or you don't. It's the same for any other way you choose to live your life. If you can't help yourself from being tempted by the ways that non-religious people live their lives, maybe you should identify yourself as religious? I doubt a lot of these people even pray/confess after they sin.

No, every religious person shouldn't be isolated from the rest of society but there's a line to be drawn. How can you live a life of restriction and devotion, yet associate yourself with people who don't follow your rules? Isn't that the quickest way to end up sinning yourself? By hanging around them, you're condoning their lifestyle. People just want it all in this society - they want the virtue of religion while living a non-religious lifestyle. Again, if you want to live your life like non-religious people, then don't identify yourself with a religion. That's what I do. I'm a believer in God, no more, no less, meaning I'm not tied to any Christian traditions and customs, if I don't want to do them. Religion's about so much more than just doing an occasional prayer, so if it's too much for you, don't identify with it. Like any other identity in life, it's about going hard or going home. You don't call yourself vegan if you eat meat and dairy once a week. You don't call yourself celibate if you have sex occasionally. You don't call yourself teetotal if you have a drink at special occasions. And you don't call yourself a follower of a religion and then proceed to do a whole list of things that your religion disapproves of. I don't know what's so hard to grasp about this concept.

Me neither. I live in Northern Europe. I lived in Eastern Europe. I have seen what some religious Christians are capable of.

You are describing yours as facts. You say "you can't deny that...." like what you stated is a fact.

Daily Mail, The Sun etc are notorious right wing  garbage tabloids, they use clickbait racially charged headlines and sometimes even photoshop niqab to a hijabi woman to make her look more "scary". I can pull the receipts if you want, but please do a bit of research how much they contributed to anti-immigrant sentiment in Britain.

Then you didn't study enough on religion, different schools of thought, culture influences etc.

"Or even just committing crimes...." mm plenty?

Just because media doesn't mention the religion of the white European criminals, it doesn't mean it's never involved. Breivik, the Norwegian terrorist who killed 77 people was motivated by religion too, in his manifesto, he wanted Europe to stay Christian and White, how is that not religiously motivated crime? Genocide of Muslims in Bosnia was partly religiously motivated. In America, who do you see shooting up women clinics because they oppose abortion, white Christians. Did you watch that interview when black woman visited KKK "wizard", he thought she's inferior based on his interpretation of the Bible. In UK many of the Britain First and EDL followers consider themselves Christian and when they attack Muslims, what are their crimes if not religiously motivated?

"Most white criminals have no religion", - you can't prove that really, only that media won't ever mention their religion, unless it's about priests molesting boys.

Also, why are you claiming that each Muslim who committed a crime IS religiously motivated? Any proof of that or just your impression because again media will mention his religion. Whoever recognizes his name as Arabic WILL connect his crimes to Islamic religion, and if you studied about terrorists, you'd notice that most have criminal background and barely any religious knowledge or background except the name. Whatever is considered the biggest sin, they've done it all, but suddenly when they end up in the news, their religion is to blame, how is that?

Most popular doesn't mean it's native. Pagan religions before Christianity would be more "native". If Middle Eastern Christians move to UK, don't you think there would be cultural clash too? Just because it's the same religion, not even same denomination, it doesn't mean that everyone will get along with everyone. UK is multicultural also because of its colonial past, you can't erase that.

I don't need to imagine. You are talking to white European woman.

But how can you say all that about white men and then proceed with "but that's nothing compared to..." you are minimizing or downplaying the sex crimes committed by white Brits. Yes, some Muslim men see us as piece of meat, also many European men see Asian women and girls as piece of meat and that's why they go to "sex tourism". I don't see how one is bad, but not as bad as...only because of the skin of sexual predators, do you understand how that comes across?

There are also plenty of religious or non religious Muslims who don't treat Western women in degrading way, but how come in that case no one says their behavior is from their religion? Whenever someone does good and treats others with respect, suddenly religion doesn't matter.

Another example I noticed, when an athlete (with Muslim background) wins a medal, he'll be praised as amazing Brit (or American) in the headlines, his foreign sounding name won't matter to anyone.  You won't see nasty comments, even in Daily Mail.

But if that person is a criminal, suddenly his religion is the focus and most comments will be about going back to Somalia/Pakistan wherever they think he's from. Even if he's born and raised in Britain.

Sorry but you can't back this up with facts. Their religion is not teaching them to be racists and assault white women. You can't prove that most of them are even religious or know much about it. This is your assumption, do you really believe that each criminal with Muslim name is motivated by his religion?

It's not true that there are no background checks. Second, many of them are born and raised in Britain so they do have a lot from British culture. Third, this is often right wing argument against accepting refugees, people fleeing from war torn areas. I wonder if you have met many people and families from those areas, if you have years of experience, maybe you wouldn't let media so much to shape your views on these matters?

So you are saying a minority has to make big protests and distance themselves every time from crimes they have not even committed (because criminals have same religion) only to please White Europeans, because "they haven't seen enough"?

Right wing media writes about "migrants" the most, because that is the hot topic right now and they have an agenda. Are you equally emotional and outraged when white men are caught in sex crimes?

Are you suspicious of white men after that?

No one ever does that, no one blames "white culture" or British culture, when they commit such crimes. Why is that?

So you wouldn't say that to Gaga because it's rude.

But you did say to this user, that he shouldn't call himself a Muslim or identify with Islam, unless he doesn't do any of the sins that are mentioned in his religion?

Europe never used to be this unsafe? If you look at the history, you know this is not true, have we forgotten two world wars, Balkan wars in 90s... terrorism in Britain hmm... IRA?

"Between 1971 and 2001, there were 430 terrorist-related deaths in Great Britain. Of these, 125 deaths were linked to the Northern Ireland conflict,[8] and 305 deaths were linked to other causes[9] – most of the latter deaths occurred in the Lockerbie bombing.[9]

Two breakaway factions of the Irish Republican Army killed two British soldiers and one police officer over three days in 2009, raising the specter of sectarianism and paramilitary score-settling. They were the worst attacks since the region’s 1998 peace deal, which was opposed by the two factions, the Continuity I.R.A. and the Real I.R.A."

"For more than 30 years from the early 1970s, the Irish Republican Army (IRA), a paramilitary group, carried out multiple attacks across the UK.

The deadliest were the Birmingham pub bombings of 1974, when 21 were killed. In 1996, the IRA detonated a massive 1500-kilogram (3300-pound) bomb in a Manchester shopping center not far from Monday night's attack, injuring more than 200. The explosion destroyed buildings but a cast iron red postbox not far from the blast site remained unscathed; its image came to symbolize the resilience of the city."

This is my last post to you, because there's no possibility to discuss these issues on this forum, without people reporting and warnings over smallest things, this is exactly what I mentioned earlier to @Venusfly .

I wrote out the longest reply to you, I put my blood sweat and tears into it...and then accidentally deleted it all. Would you mind if I sent you a private message regarding all this stuff sometime soon? I'd really like to clear my name as well as any assumptions about me on this thread but I don't have the time or the mental energy to even attempt to recreate everything I just typed. I'm cursing myself right now. If you don't wish to send posts to me publicly, I only hope you're open to let me reach out to you by PM.

I don't quite agree with you on this. The reason why I'm following a religion is not just because I was born with it, but because I find it to be like a basic need for me as a human being to have a clear guidance on how to live my life. The more I learn about religion, the more I learn about the meanings and purpose of life. Religion has taught me a lot of things that I would have probably never think about like life after death etc and i feel like it is a spiritual need for every human to have some sort of beliefs to find inner peace and to feel connected to their Creator. Even though not everyone can fully commit to their religion, but I don't think that they should quit believing just because of that reason. Like myself, sometimes I do things that are not approved by my religion, but it's impossible for everyone to resist every temptations because every human being has a desire to do certain things that aren't always a good thing to do, but having a religion helps them know if what they do is right or wrong. And it helps them to improve themselves to be a better person each day.

I never said people should quite believing, just be more spiritual as opposed to religious. A lot of people now are like that anyway. Spirituality gives you modern freedom to do what you like, all while still having a moral compass and still feeling a connection to a higher being. You also don't need religion to tell you if you're right or wrong. I was raised in a family that didn't teach me any religious teachings and I knew right from wrong. It's possible to be moral without being religious. Religion is based on basic human morality, the only difference is, religion gives you a really strong incentive to be moral, i.e punishment. That's all. And as we've seen, even this still isn't enough to stop some people doing wrong.

Yes you don't need religion to be a good human being but the main reason why people follow a certain religion in the first place is because they believe in God

Yikes at some of these comments. Remember when a white guy killed Heather Heyer and the thread was flooded with calls of no longer allowing white men to stay in America? Hmmm no wait I don't. Wonder what the difference could be...

Christianity never evolved. Only its grip on politics decreased. Majority of Western Europeans are irreligious or just Cultural Christians.

This is my last post to you, because there's no possibility to discuss these issues on this forum, without people reporting and warnings over smallest things, this is exactly what I mentioned earlier to @Venusfly .

@lego  As it turns out, I think I can reply to all this in the thread now.

But do you really see or hear Christians carrying out crimes motivated by their religion all the time in Europe? The most I hear is a bit of tutting, but they keep themselves to themselves. I think it's because we know an opinion from any sort of religious standpoint isn't welcome anymore, so we just keep quiet. Non religious people won't even entertain religious people in their lives. The culture of dread when there's a Jehovah's Witness at the door is because in the Western world, we don't like to mention religion or have it pushed on us.

When I use phrases like "You can't deny that..." I'm referring to extremist Muslim attacks on citizens. Muslims are the ones committing the most crimes like this right now. A Swedish policeman was hounded for racism on Facebook because he posted a list of all the crimes he dealt with in a single week (a rota of rape, assault, robbery, assault on police, attempted murder) followed by the names and nationality of these suspected perpetrators and it was a rota of Mohammed and Ali names, followed by a rota of countries like Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq and Somalia. The man who posted it actually wasn't against immigration or even deportation of criminals - he just wanted the Swedish police force to acknowledge that there is a severe problem with immigrants right now, that there is a big intent within them to overthrow the police force and laid down the facts to back up his position.

Oh, trust me, I'm sick and tired of hearing all the pitfalls of these papers, I don't need to do any more research. Thing is, I don't judge people by the newspaper they read. In my case, I like the layout of some news sites as opposed to others. I read the news to do just that and make up my own mind, regardless of who's printed it. Say all you want about how much ring wing papers demonise other races, but I could say that left wing papers demonise conservatives and make innocent people out to be racists. You'll find that left wing papers like to hide its readers from all the bad things that are happening in the world but the right wing ones aren't afraid to put it out there, no matter how bad it is. If there's bad stuff happening in my country, I want to know about it. I want victims to be heard. Liberal sources used to be all about cutting to the truth and not wanting censorship but the tables have really turned on this one. It's way I find myself increasing losing faith in my fellow liberals.

Excuse me, are you doubting the degree that I worked very hard to achieve? Studying religion certainly taught me about the depth of it but it also showed me how religion has played a big part in a great deal of unrest in the world and that the more dogmatic the views, the more dangerous things can get. Naturally, I didn't write this on my essays or exam papers, but I think it's what I, and a lot of us, were thinking.

Of course white criminals can be motivated by religion too but they're a lot rarer because most white Christians in modern society aren't as strict on its followers as Muslims are. Also, white societies tend to have a lack of religion, so religion isn't encouraged to dictate your own life if you do choose to follow it. And my point is that most white criminals that commit crimes don't have a religion, so you can't tie religion on them. I read crime stories in a weekly magazine and I can tell you that almost all the stories involve white people with absolutely no religious ties or moral compass. The only ones that seem to involve religion at all are the ones from America and by that I mean that something was mentioned about how the criminal went to church with their family on the day of the murder or something. But most of the stories involve white people doing bad things to other white people based on personal vendettas or mental illness. Unless, like you said, there's a clear-cut case of religion being involved, in the case of molestation in the Catholic church, then obviously religion will be brought into it and we're free to drag religion to the pits (as long as it's the most popular one in your country).

It's obvious when a Muslim criminal is religiously motivated and when they're not. Or anyone is or isn't, really. If a Muslim kills his girlfriend for dumping him, I wouldn't say that was religious motivation because it's clearly all about personal vendetta and a lot of white, non-religious men have done the same crime. It's also not religiously motivated if they rob a store or steal money from a company or someone. Those are crimes anyone of any race, religion and culture can do. But if a Muslim runs into a shopping centre praising Allah in Arabic and then blows the place up, well, that's clear religious motivation. It's also clear when a Muslim family carries out an honour killing. These are crimes that only Muslims do. The latter incidents are what I'm referring to when I'm talking about Muslims committing the most acts of terrorism in society today.

But Christianity is the most popular religion in the country and the Queen is Christian and is the Defender of the Faith, so of course Christianity is native to our country. Times change and the new idea of native takes over. Native doesn't have to mean "here since the beginning of time." And of course there will always be culture clashes for all things in life. You'd think that considering that Christians and Muslims believe in the same god, things would be just fine, but apparently not.

Sorry, I could have sworn you once said you were male. I must have got you confused with someone else.

I'm not trying to downplay the crimes committed by white Brits. I'm simply saying that it's bad enough when a country is responsible for creating a monster...but when monsters created by other countries are brought in, it just becomes even worse. Surely you realise that importing refugees who come from countries that have outdated ideas about women and sex is going to make sex crimes go even higher than they are now? While it isn't what we were talking about, it's an interesting point that you make about the sex tourism industry. Naturally, being anti p*rn, I'm also anti sex industry too, so I'm extremely opposed to sex tourism and it makes me sick to think that a lot of British men are involved in it. I read a story from a Thai British woman once who said that whenever she flies over to visit family, the plane consists of about 80% white males and they're clearly travelling alone and aren't businessmen. I cannot explain my disgust at a man not content with abusing women in his own country so much so that he has to go to other countries to abuse their women. Let's make it absolutely clear - I do not support or condone the abuse of any woman, of any race, culture or religion, anywhere by anyone.

Respecting women should be present in all cultures, that's why religion isn't brought up when it happens. I don't think any religion has respect for women imbued into its agenda that it teaches. It's not a religious requirement, it's a humane development.

Well, I actually disagree with you when you say that a Muslim athlete is praised as an amazing Brit when they win and no one cares about his name. Sure, you'll get people like me who don't care but then you get people like my dad who ask why Mo Farah is hiding his real name of Mohammed. And actually, you do get nasty comments in the DM sometimes, which can be a big bump down to earth after reading such an uplifiting article, but it's not always to do with race. The British tennis player, Johanna Konta, was born in Australia to Hungarian parents, moved to Spain briefly and has now settled in Britain and has lived here for nearly half her life. She did really well at Wimbledon this year, so I was shocked to see comments on the DM saying stuff like: "I bet Australia is really proud of her," "I'm sure her parents don't see her as British" and "I should've known a born and bred Brit wouldn't be doing this well." It doesn't always come down to race. But yes, there will always be people in this world who think race is tied to nationality or your birthplace is the be all and end all.

And I think, in a sense, Muslim criminals (and by this, I mean terrorists) who are born and raised in Britain are even more frightening because they've grown up in a culture that doesn't encourage this behaviour, regardless of how anyone around them may have radicalised them. I think sometimes people mention about going back to their country of origin because so many times, when terrorist incidents happen, born and bred British Muslims have overseas ties, frequently fly out to the middle east and/or have pledged devotion to ISIS. Not saying that comments like this are right, but you can see where they come from.

No, their religion isn't teaching them to rape and assault white women, but they're seeing it in their own culture. Their families and peers are sending them messages about white women. Even in British Muslim households, it's frequent for the parents to actively discourage their children from dating whites, saying it brings shame on their family and religion. So, white women are then held up as innately sinful because they are an affront to everything that Muslims believe, so they become like a forbidden fruit. And some Muslims who have been very repressed by their strict families, want to know what all the fuss is about these white women and why other races want them so much. And a lot of Muslim criminals come from Muslim families, this is what they were raised as, and they identify as Muslim. And I already mentioned about how to differentiate religious motivation from other kinds of motivation.

It's not that there's no background checks, necessarily, but they're not intensive enough. If there's always background checks, how come so many illegal immigrants are getting in? Why are illegal immigrants with criminal records getting in? Clearly, people are slipping through the cracks. And I'm not talking about the ones in Britain, I'm talking about the refugees coming over right now. Of course I have compassion for people escaping war but I think the whole issue needs to be dealt with better.  Women, children and families, not single men. And I use the media to fill in the gaps I can't fill and I consume all media from a large variety of sources. It's hardly feasible for me in my current situation to go travelling all the way down to London to refugee camps.

No, it's nothing to do with pleasing white Europeans. It's about education. It's so easy to see and hear about all the extemist Muslim atrocities happen and assume, as most people don't have qualifications in religion, that this is something that all Muslims believe in. Because of this, hate crimes against Muslims have increased dramatically because of this ignorance. British Muslims might be a step or two closer to having a safer life if they take it upon themselves to educate others in the form of a mass protest.

Yes, right wing media writes about migrants the most, but they do so because this is important news that needs to be told to its people. Left wing media skirts around the issues and does thought pieces about how we shouldn't be judgemental. According to you, it can't seem to be possible to be disgusted by the crime carried out by Muslim migrants but at the same time feel compassion for the good ones who are just looking for a safe life? I wish media in general would be more balanced to reflect this view. I've found that when I present a conservative source to a liberal, they don't want to hear it. I've even had my own friends do this me, and yet liberalism is supposed to be tolerant and about finding the truth? What has appalled me the most is that any time I try to rely these stories of white women all over Europe who claim to have been raped/assaulted by migrants and are scared to leave their own homes and can't go in no-go zones, they tell me it's sensationalist stuff by right wing media, it's exaggeration and lies. It's infuriating because these are the same people who preach that women's voices should be heard and all rape victims deserve justice, yet they think it's made up when white women claim that a non-white man did it to her. Even though an entire BBC series was made about a real police cover-up over Muslim gangs grooming and prostituting white girls and the police say it's all true, these same people still say it's all made-up to distract from the real issues. All female voices should be heard.

And of course I'm equally as emotional and outraged when white men commit sex crimes. Of course I should be - there's more of them in this country than anyone else! And if you could only knew how suspicious I am of white men in general. To quote Chris Rock: "I am terrified of young white boys - if you're white and under 21, I am running for the hills! White boys always picked on me, so I'm wary of them. In fact, everyone who's ever been nasty to me in life has been white, so I'm mistrustful of a lot of people. One reason why deep down, I'm scared to date is that so many white women are dealing with sh*t from white men that if I get into a relationship, what if it's fine at first but then he cheats on me or hits me, as I've read in so many of these weekly crime stories? I'm suspicious of all kinds of men, believe me.

And no one blames British culture when they commit crimes because we don't have sharia law in this country, we don't allow our men to marry children, we don't give a woman 40 lashes for pre-marital sex, we don't kill our family members in honour killings. If your country operates under such horrific regimes, yes, your culture will be called into question. But frankly, to play devil's advocate...I think British culture should be criticised a bit more, especially when it comes to how we treat women. We sexualise them too much, which fuels a great deal of local sex crimes, because when you see women sexualised throughout your life, you'll internalise it as believing that's what they're there for. That's one part of our culture that I think needs to be addressed more.

There is a big difference between saying something to someone's face and saying it online. There is also a big difference between someone you don't know and someone who you idolise. Obviously, treatment will be different. I'm far more likely to be harsh with someone I don't know than someone who I like and respect. Like most people. But as you can see from my later replies, I've still been as polite and civil as I can be.

When I say Europe never used to be this unsafe, I've been talking about my lifetime, from 1989. 7/7 was the only major terrorist attack in my country that I remember. But now there's a terrorist attack seemingly every other week. I've never been scared to be in my own country but I am now. Was tense going to my first concert post-Manchester arena attack, feel nervous about travelling to Birmingham in October, feel worried for my cousin in Bradford. It's not just happening in London anymore, it's all over and it's frequent. It's not a crime nor is it racist to feel scared.

Yikes at some of these comments. Remember when a white guy killed Heather Heyer and the thread was flooded with calls of no longer allowing white men to stay in America? Hmmm no wait I don't. Wonder what the difference could be...

That is a very different thing. Neo-nazis are rare and aren't the same as regular white men. Incidents like this aren't happening all the time in America, it's an isolated incident. As I've said a few times throughout this current post, it's very easy to tell when there's religious motivation and when there's not and there's a big problem with organised extremist Muslim crime into the bargain. And for the record, I don't support the Muslim ban. Or Trump. But I think far stricter regulations have to be in place when taking in anyone from another country, particularly ones that have very different religious outlooks from the country's majority population. Open door policies are currently showing how disastrous they can be.
