If you truly support your Muslim religion, you wouldn't support her. Neither would you support homosexuality but disapprove of it when it comes to gay marriage. You're entitled to your beliefs but they are all over the place. I don't understand why someone would call themselves a follower of a certain religion but then do things that their religion would not approve of. I believe in God and I pray but wouldn't go as far as calling myself a Christian because I don't go to church or read the Bible and I have certain beliefs that Christianity doesn't support. So, I simply call myself a believer in God, I'm no more or less than that. So, I'm confused when someone identified themselves as a follower of a religion but doesn't does very little that would give that impression. As someone who has a degree in religious studies, including Islam, I think your beliefs are very confused and you perhaps need to study your religion a bit better to fully understand what you're identifying as. And remember that you can't just follow the nice parts and discard the troublesome parts. True, some people are hellbent on hating Islam but some people, like myself, who actually have a degree in this religion and multiple others, understand the downsides of any religion and am critical of some of the practices and beliefs in modern society. Agreed, GGD can be very hard to talk about serious topics but I'm always someone who you can trust to be serious and talk intellectually. "Those who are are meant to understand will eventually understand" is quite a sinister thing to say. This would be regarded as such if most other people said it. Why do you think it's acceptable to force acceptance of any religion and culture onto a society that simply doesn't believe in it? Would you accept this if it were the other way around? Even sharia law states that you must respect the laws of the land you are in. So, what do you think of Muslim immigrants who are coming into Europe and flouting their laws? This is why so many people have problems with the religion. It's hard to respect a group of people who perform such hypocrisy. Yes, there are nicer things about Islam but religion isn't about picking and choosing the nice things and ignoring the bad things. That's why I never went full-force into Christianity because I found it was too strict and didn't suit my lifestyle and I didn't want to be a hypocrite who called themselves Christian despite never setting foot in a church unless it's for a christening or a wedding. there's too much misconceptions going on here. actually Islam is not confusing, but the media all around the world is trying to confuse people with all of these misconceptions about Islam. Islam never taught us to hate anyone because of what they do. In fact Islam never taught us to hate anyone period. Islam only taught us to hate the bad things or the sins that they do and try to stay away from doing it, not the people that are committing the sins. Just because gay people having sex, there's no reason for me to hate them for that. Everyone makes mistakes. So there's no reason to hate someone because of their mistakes in life. If Gaga doing things that are against my religion, it's between her and God. It has nothing to do with me, so why should I hate her. When you said how these people considered themselves as Muslims or Christians but they didn't even do what their religion taught, well religion was there to guide us. If you are already perfect, why you need a religion.

Because religion dictates that you have to be civil and respectful to others and that's it's the decision of the whatever deity you believe in what will happen to you after you die, therefore, it's not our place to judge. Wow you are extremely biased even if you claim you don't identify as Christian. Just because you don't see, it doesn't mean it never happens, I have witnessed many times, zealous Christian women (and men) trying to shove their religion down people's throats, whether they're atheist or Muslim or Jewish. It all starts with "do you know Jesus..." and then it gets aggressive. If you haven't seen it in Daily Mail, trust me, it happens and it isn't that rare. Quote While there are Christians who do go on crazy rampages and suchlike, these incidents are very rare. But for Muslims to commit crime against others is very high. And yet, we cannot criticise Islam when this happens, yet we can criticise Christianity for creating psychos who shoot up a black church without anyone batting an eyelid. Every religion has the ability to produce criminals and horrible people. But you cannot deny that the religion that commits the biggest amount of crime is Islam (or at least, those who commit it identify as Muslim even though their religion would not approve of these crimes). Again. Religion is not a person, it's not even practiced the same way in two different cities, let alone in different continents. I can't believe someone with religious studies would write such a thing, "you can't deny..." seriously... and Christians committing crimes is very rare, but for Muslims it's very high... what?? 1 hour ago, StrawberryBlond said: But in the country I live in, our culture states that women are to be treated with respect and should be given the freedom to do what they like, so in no way do I support the policing of how they should look and act to appease a religion that isn't even native to my country. "It isn't even native to my country"... that says it all, doesn't it? You do know Christianity originated from Middle East, right? It's not a "European religion". You do know that a white Briton can rape and be aggressive criminal and still claim to love his country and fight for its culture. You are acting as if all British men have huge respect for women and there's no such thing as high domestic violence and sexual assault among the white natives. --- have to add something; when you are constantly fed by the media with headlines like these and you never notice cases like these no wonder you have distorted image of reality. No wonder you think "these foreign people with foreign religion do more crimes than any other group". It's just sad to read that from someone who claims to be an intellectual. Unless you stop believing in God, then you're not a Muslim. But Islam always gives its followers a chance to improve themselves. As long as your soul is within your body, you still have a chance to seek forgiveness and submit yourself to God.

I know conservative people personally who still like Lady Gaga or Ellen de Generes for example despite not approving of specific things in their lives You can talk to them, but I don't know about being friends with, dating, supporting people who I disapprove of. And there are vegans who don't talk to people who eat meat, by the way. What's the difference between homophobia and having beliefs? Isn't there such thing as homphobic beliefs? But that's what gets me - the hypocrisy out of convenience. "Oh, she's going to hell, but she can write a good song!" But that's modern society for you - validation for hypocrisy because we want it all. I don't approve of hardcore Christianity by any means but at least fundamentalism is consistent. 44 minutes ago, JourneyToAvalon said: Thank you, I'm glad. I'm afraid you misunderstood completely. "Those who are are meant to understand will eventually understand" which means we cannot and should not force religion on anyone. Those who are destined to understand will understand with or without our help. So I told him to choose the nice things and ignore the bad ones? That's what I did? You misunderstood me again and I'm sorry but I won't keep explaining myself. But that is in no way what I meant nor was it my intention. I apologize if I'm being rude. Peace. But I'm pointing out that this phrase has sinister undertones. Most people will see this phrase in reference to religion and interpret it as: "Those who accept will be saved and the other will feel the flames of hell." Just letting you know. However you meant it, it can be misinterpreted. You basically did. You said to write about the nicer things in Islam that people don't know about. That's diversion from the issue. You don't want to focus on the uncomfortable reality, so you conveniently want to start only talking about the nice parts. Again, religion isn't about discarding the bits you don't like. You have to address it all. Thing is, in my country, religion is not a necessity, if you don't want it to be. You answer to yourself, not religion. The law of the land comes first, not religion. So, it's very hard to be truly accepting of a religion that restricts freedoms that are protected under our laws, that practices things that are illegal in our country, that dresses its women in clothes that our culture finds threatening (covering everything except your eyes is what criminals do to conceal their identities in my country). I have no problem with a Muslim living here and practicing their religion in private, integrating with the locals and adhering to our laws. But when they start forcing their religion onto others, isolate themselves from non-Muslims and start demanding that we change our laws to suit them...then I have a problem. 39 minutes ago, SFDMQ said: there's too much misconceptions going on here. actually Islam is not confusing, but the media all around the world is trying to confuse people with all of these misconceptions about Islam. If you are already perfect, why you need a religion. I'm not talking about Islam, the religion. I'm talking about your specific beliefs. You say you're Muslim and then do things that your religion would not condone. Your confession of watching p*rn was really indefensible. No branch of Islam supports that. I'm not Muslim and I don't watch p*rn and am entirely opposed to it in general because I believe it degrades and physically harms the performers and also has negative repercussions on its viewers. I know atheists who don't watch p*rn. So, it's hard to take your claim of being a Muslim seriously when you state that you watch p*rn. I don't think any religion supports that. Religion was designed to guide us, but we were also supposed to live our lives by it. Saying "Do not kill," for example, isn't just a guide, it's a command to follow for the rest of your life. If you want to identify with a religion, you have to go all the way. You don't hear a vegan say: "I'm vegan...but I eat meat and dairy once a week." We'd laugh at someone who said that. But yet, we're supposed to accept someone who says: "I'm Muslim...but I never go to the mosque"?
