Is Taylor Swift the most popular female pop star in the world?

She's easily THE MOST played artist in southern Minnesota (united States) for sure. And she has been since her first single, whenever that was. But southern Minnesota in not so densely-populated and country is huge here, so I think her coming from "country" helps.

Thanks for the thread! I'm from the US and reading about the other areas and which artists have made themselves a household name outside of the US is very interesting.

My parents live in Canada and even they wouldn't be able to tell you much about Taylor swift. Gaga on the other hand they know exactly who she is and what she does.

Could that possibly be because their child is a little monster and has a GGD account? Lol

No.

Madonna gets that title. All generations know her. Adele, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and probably even Rihanna are more popular than Taylor in terms of the number of countries and nationalities they are known.

I mean, Taylor doesn't even have signature songs. What Taylor lacks is something that will make her remembered by people.

Katy Perry is not the most famous popstar! I would say it's Beyoncé, but Katy is popular too tho

I wouldn't say that tho. Most teens, from what I see, don't know anything about Beyoncé since Single Ladies and only know her biggest hits.

I'm a teen and I'm tired of everyone praising beyoncé and loving lemonade and blah blah.

By everyone I mean these girls that buy the Kyle Jenner lipkit and love Justin Bieber, but since most of the teenage girls are like this...

She's not huge... John Wayne was the #1 most popular video in Spain and no one knows the song:toofunny:

People know Shake It Off and Never Getting Back Together were hits but that's it.

Beyonce might be famous among adults, I don't know anyone who listens to her songs, only adults and they only listen to her old hits (2003-2009), just like Lady Gaga (people only remember her first three eras and they don't know what she's been doing since then, except for the superbowl). Taylor is definitely more known among teenagers and people under 30 than Beyonce, just look Spotify... And Katy Perry is very famous but again thanks to Teenage dream singles, Roar and Dark Horse, maybe Chained to the rythm too

Well, I'm a teen as well and literally no one knows about Lemonade where I live:laughga: I guess it depends quite a lot on the environment and area we're talking about.

The UK is probably where she's the most popular in Europe, hence why almost all her European tour dates are focused on us. She was basically unknown of during her debut, she picked up a very small select fanbase during Fearless, became forgotten again during Speak Now, picked up momentum during Red and finally made a mega breakthrough with 1989. That album sold just over a million copies here and produced several top ten hits, a first for her. But because she never put her music on Spotify, she's never had a #1 hit here. If she had, Shake It Off and Blank Space would have unquestionably gone to #1, maybe even Bad Blood. But because she chose to be selective, she missed out on those accolades. Her choices as a businesswoman, especially when it comes to pushing her music in foreign nations, are overrated, to say the least. But seeing as she's now on Spotify and her song is blowing up our charts right now, she might well be on the verge of her first ever #1. But I can't promise anything for the future. But in the rest of Europe, her scope is very limited. And as for further afield, she struggles even more. Asia is showing more interest than in the past but not much difference. She's still never done a tour date in Latin America because, apart from maybe Mexico and Brazil, no one cares. And South Africa is the only African nation that seems the least bit interested but I don't know if it's stadium level interest. English-speaking nations are the only places where she continues to truly make her mark.

Basically, some of the young will know of her, the older set won't. Until she made 1989, she didn't have anywhere near the power she does now, though. It took her a long time to get international attention whereas most other females get it on their debut album, so I think it's hardly some big achievement. There isn't really a reigning pop female right now. The only ones who are doing really well are urban acts, so it's hard to judge. If this new album blows up, though, I might change my mind, temporarily at least.
